Megathread [D2] Trials of Osiris Megathread [2022-06-24]

Trials of Osiris is LIVE

This thread is for all general discussion, questions, thoughts, musings, wonderings, etc. for the Trials of Osiris.

What are the Trials of Osiris?

  • Trials of Osiris is the pinnacle PvP activity. Every Weekend, the best players compete in 3v3 Elimination for one goal: Go Flawless.

  • To start, head to Saint-14 in the Tower Hangar and buy one of the possible passages (see below).

  • To reach Flawless and get to the Lighthouse, you need to win 7 matches without losing one.

  • It uses Win Based and Weekly-Performance Based Matchmaking, which means you'll face teams with a similar amount of wins on their card. Matches will get harder as you win more matches on that same card, and for all cards, the matches you get will be based on your overall performance so far for that week.

  • There is fireteam matchmaking. However, we still recommend you find a team for yourself!

  • Power Level matters, however bonus power from the artifact is not enabled.

How Long do the Trials of Osiris last?

  • Event Starts: Every Friday at Daily Reset (1700 UTC).

  • Event Ends: Following Tuesday at Weekly Reset (1700 UTC).

Where do I go to find Guardians to team up with?

  • You can head over to /r/Fireteams, www.The100.io, Xbox LFG system, DestinyLFG.net or DestinyLFG.com, or go to the Bungie.net recruitment forum (also available through the Bungie App). Additionally, many Discord servers host fireteam LFG services.

What if I have a question about another piece of armor/weapon or general Trials question?

  • Use Control + F (Or Command + F if on a Mac) and search for keywords in your question. Someone may have asked it already. If not, ask below in the comments.

Trials of Osiris Map

Distant Shore

  • Reputation Rank 4: Upgrade Module (2)

  • Reputation Rank 7: Enhancement Prism (3)

  • Reputation Rank 10: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)

  • Reputation Rank 13: Upgrade Module (2)

  • Reputation Rank 16: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)

  • Flawless Reward: The Summoner (Adept)

Reputation System, Trials Engrams, and Adept Farming

Win individual rounds within each match to gain Trials reputation. The amount of reputation you gain increases with each round you've won on your card. Earn enough reputation, and you'll be able to claim a Trials Engram from Saint-14! This engram can be focused into any currently available trials loot you have previously obtained, or it can be taken to Master Rahool for a random Trials drop. Your reputation increases after every match completion, based on the number of round-wins on your card, regardless of the result of that match itself (win or lose, 0-5 or 5-4).

Once you have gone Flawless, keep playing! Every win you achieve while at the 7-win level, even if you lose your Flawless, has a chance to drop bonus Trials Engrams, adept weapons, prisms, and even Ascendant Shards. There is no penalty for losing once you've made it to the Lighthouse!

When you're done, you can cash in your 7-win passage for one additional adept drop, granted you have gone Flawless that week. This resets your card so you can start anew.

Name Perk Cost
Passage of Ferocity Your third match win grants a bonus win. 10000 Glimmer & 15 Legendary Shards
Passage of Mercy Forgives one loss per run. 10000 Glimmer & 15 Legendary Shards
Passage of Wealth Increased Trials Rank points from reaching 3, 5, and 7 match wins on a ticket. 15000 Glimmer & 25 Legendary Shards
Passage of Confidence Grants bonus rewards from Flawless Chest. 20000 Glimmer & 50 Legendary Shards

Question Why do I have to pay for Voidwalker perks, but not Stormcaller?

New to Destiny 2. Played F2P for a few days then bought Legacy and WQ.

Why do Stormcaller and Voidwalker have different perk UI?

EDIT: Just wanted to thank everyone for explaining the mechanics to me. It is super fun and my buddy and I are buying it. Definitely much more fun with a friend!

Misc Please, for the love of god, use the teleporters in Gambit.

It seems that every game I play, people will actually run aaalll the way from one side of the map to the other. My fellow guardians, there are teleporters on each end of the map that take you to the other side. Please use them.

Question is NO Time to Explain Meta all of a sudden?

I have not seen or died to it more since it's release then in the last 24 hours of freelance. It is rampant as nearly every match has 1-2 people with it. Most common weapon for me by FAR.

I know it is good, but did I miss something else that caused a huge uptick in usage?

Discussion I might be late but, what was the point of removing Palindrome from the Nightfall loot pool if you are just gonna replace it with another 140 HC

We could've gotten reprised Militia's Birthright but nope we got another kinetic 140 HC, which is even more stupid when you realise we also got Austringer this season. Another kinetic 140 HC.

Also to mention that this is the 3rd adept 140 HC yet we don't have a single adept Bow.

Discussion a more consistent way of farming certain exotics

We definitely need a more consistent way of farming exotics. Lost sectors are terrible. There's literally 3 barriers of RNG that need to be crossed before you actually get an exotic with a roll you want. Number one, get an exotic drop at all, after clearing a lost sector. Number 2, this exotic has to be the one you actually want. Number 3, the exotic has to drop with a stat spread you can actually make use of. Like brother, what are the chances to get the exact roll on the exact exotic you want? Terrible, that's for sure. And I don't know if that is a bug or not, but putting statfocus mods on my ghost didn't even allow the exotics that dropped from the lost sector to actually spike in my preferred stat. So tell me, how the hell are we supposed to get better exotics? I've had my exotics with their same rolls for literally 2 to 3 years by now, and I would really love to minmax my stats such as mobility, discipline and recovery/resilience. We can focus legendary armor, but since we cannot focus exotics, my stats are always short of one proper exotic... It's a pain.

SGA Want to enjoy the game more? Don't feel like you need to grind every craftable weapon.

Just a very short SGA. Some of the craftable weapons (CALUS Mini-Tool, Submission, Austringer, Insidious, etc.) are fantastic and are absolutely worth farming and grinding up to level 13-16.

On the other hand, you're probably never going to need a perfect roll on the Throne World sidearm.

These patterns are super useful for you to have the potential to craft that perfect roll if you ever need it.

You'll burn yourself out trying to get absolutely everything completed, and there's no reason you need to.

Get the patterns if you're feeling OCD, but don't try to have a perfect copy of each gun in your vault unless you really, really want to and enjoy the process.

(For those grinding, btw, Shuro Chi w. Tether is the absolute fastest weapon rank you'll find.)

Media // Bungie Replied Cheese Gun

If you put Rivalry Stoic on Firefright, it turns the mag into a block of cheese and makes the barrel look like squirt cheese. This should be how guns can be shaded moving forward: Cheese.

Misc Showerthought: a ranged melee that gives an enemy a shield

As per the title, just an idea for a ranged melee ability that, if you hit a combatant with it, gives that combatant an elemental shield. Non-boss enemies wouldn't be able to shoot out of it, but other than that it's just like the regular elemental shields some enemies have.

Why would you want that? First, because breaking a shield with matching elemental damage causes an explosion that does decent damage and staggers enemies. Second, because it can proc perks like Genesis and Disruption Break.

Against bosses and mini-bosses, I guess for the sake of balance it couldn't work the same way. The simplest thing would be if it just did some damage, but if you wanted to get fancy it could form a shield of limited size - instead of enveloping the boss it just bulges out of them like a big blister, and doesn't block their shots.

With enemies that already have shields, the ability would just change the element of the shield to match your subclass (if it already matches, the ability has no effect).

Anyway, just a concept I thought was interesting.

Question Why don’t more people use Sacred Provenance?

I can’t be the only one who forgot that this thing exists, I get that insidious can be crafted (even tho getting 5 red borders is a pain) and therefore better. But even before it came out I never see anyone use this gun, is it bad or do people just dislike garden?

r/DestinyTheGame 20h ago

Discussion Weird question, but what are some of the guns with the best & worst shooting sounds in the game?

Some of my favorites include Thoughtless, Krait, Xenophage, Calus Minitool, literally any kinetic hand canon, Sleeper Simulant, Come to Pass, stuff like that.

Some of the worst ones imo are any other stasis guns introduced in witch queen that i didnt mention in my favorites list.

I’d love to hear your guys’ thoughts!

Edit: How could i forget Outbreak as a great one? Doy.

Discussion Do Void Overshields need a buff in PvE?

Ever since Void 3.0, I've felt that the Overshield focus for Titans was a little on the weak side. The grenade regen and bonus melee damage is nice but the Overshield itself is pretty weak. Titan Void was sold as this in the middle of battle defender but honestly it feels like Solar 3.0 blows this out of the water. Loreley with its restoration completely overshadows the Overshield.

I know the Overshield is good in PvP so I think its fine there but in PvE it feels kinda worthless. Thoughts?

Discussion Just a reminder, if you play without headphones, you're missing some of the best audio design in gaming.

Whenever I play with headphones, I always notice a new sound effect I hadn't noticed previously. There's so many nuanced sounds in the game. It's truly amazing to be able to hear them all clearly.

Hats off to the overlooked audio design folks. All the little sounds really make the game come alive for me.

Misc At this point Gambit should just be renamed to G-Horn Bonanza

Seriously, take a shot for every player with G-Horn and you'll get alcohol poisoning within the second game. I miss the old Gambit when Forsaken launched. It was fun.

Edit: I really mean back when Forsaken launched and nobody knew what the meta was, I haven't forgotten Sleeper invades or the infamous 120% aim-assist Queensbreaker.

Bungie Suggestion Let bounties increase weapon levels on crafted weapons

Let me burn through bounties and have that experience count towards weapon level progression on crafted weapons.

Discussion An interesting interaction between a Void Fragment and a Warlock Exotic...

So I was doing a patrol on the Castellum and noticed that Devour was refreshing up to 22 seconds. This was around the same time I started using Echo Of Persistence (void buffs applied to you have increased duration).

The Exotic in question is Secant Filaments, which grants Devour when placing an Empowering Rift. However, they seem to grant a "special" version of Devour, giving you more time than usual (10 > 11 seconds, or 15 > 17 seconds with Echo Of Persistence). This behavior is likely intentional to make up for a loss of time due to player input being disabled when placing a rift.

Just to jot down some timings on how long Devour lasts/refreshes up to:

  • Devour: 10 seconds
  • Devour + Echo Of Persistence: 10 > 15 seconds
  • Devour + Secant Filaments: 10 > 11 seconds
  • Devour + Echo Of Persistence + Secant Filaments: 10 > 17 seconds but raises the cap to 22 seconds

So the takeaway here is that Echo Of Persistence and Secant Filaments have a weird interaction that doesn't grant you 22 seconds of Devour on rift placement, but raises the cap from 17 seconds to 22. So getting a few kills after placing the rift will bump your time up to 22 seconds. I tested this several times and received a consistent result. THIS DOES NOT WORK WITHOUT ECHO OF PERSISTENCE.

22 seconds of Devour is nothing to scoff at, and makes this Exotic all the more worthwhile to use, especially in endgame content. Looking at you, GMs. Overload rifts + 22 seconds of Devour + 20% damage buff from empowerment? Yes please.

Question what is it supposed to mean when my trials teammate shoots me in the face when the match starts?

additional context:

we loaded in 2 v 3. we lost the first round, then won the next two.

after he died I killed 2 players on the other team and revived him. after that he started shooting me in the face at the start of each round. what is that supposed to mean?

Discussion Why is Behemoth considered bad?

Not making an argument or anything like like just curious.

I’m a casual player so I don’t really know what is considered good or bad but stasis on my titan has got to be the most fun subclass for me in the game. I did play as a shadebinder for a bit but it just felt too slow compared to Behemoth.

I haven’t really played it pvp yet so I don’t know how it fairs in there either.

Question Calus mini tool drop rate

I’m about to reset my helm rank (rank 15 currently) and I have yet to see a single copy of the mini tool drop. (I have the focusing upgrade but I need an actual drop first before I can focus it).

Is there an npc or someone I need to talk to first before this gun is obtainable? Or is it just literally containment and opulent chests and I just have bad rng?

Discussion 3.0 light subclasses needs better balancing on aspects

TL:DR 1 aspect is too broken and it hurts the buildcrafting or we have conflicts between functions

The aspects are a great concept but they add benefits that are completely unbalanced in comparison to the others

Nightstalker: vanishing step is clearly the best option for the first part of the build, and then you see stylish executioner being strong but selfish and trapper's ambush benefiting the group but don't have many possible ways to activate like the latter. Also they conflict with each other since you need the smoke to weaken for stylish executioner and you need the smoke to dive or to drop for trapper's ambush.

Gunslinger: knock 'em down is almost mandatory for most of the builds while gunpowder gamble is fun and strong but offers only 1 fragment while on your mark is strong too and offers 3 fragments, making gunpowder gamble the worst option.

Sentinel: controlled demolition offers huge benefits for the team without any penalty. Offensive bulwark is completely broken but requires overshield, making it not viable with controlled demolition because of how hard would be using overshield without bastion, then making bastion mandatory because it's the only fragment allowing good synergies.

Sunbreaker: sunsposts and sol invictus are busted but could be replaced (the restoration at least) by Loreley Splendor Helm. The nerf to roaring flames made it less effective but still viable and the consecration buff made it also viable. This subclass don't have any huge problem now but if Bungie nerfs Loreley probably sol invictus would be mandatory depending on what the nerf would be since it helps titan being aggressive, that is one of the main points of this subclass.

Voidwalker: this subclass also is fine since feed the void is good and could be replaced, child of the old gods is strong but maybe require you to do something you don't want to. Chaos accelerant is the main source of damage for the majority of the time on this subclass but since it requires effort to be broken it's not mandatory. This subclass probably is the most balanced and don't need much attention

Dawnblade: Now we're talking about one of the most controversial topics of this season. The reason for this is because touch of flame buffs grenades that already were strong (most of them at least) and is mandatory for almost every build. Then we have icarus dash (IMO great and so much better than heat rises) that give better mobility and cures you with super/weapon multikills while heat rises enhances the aerial gameplay and cures you when use your grenade (could benefit from touch of flame). The main flaw of this is that heat rises and icarus dash seems to be one aspect but separated into two (specifically heat rises giving one extra dash and making easier to heal with icarus dash) but if you use them together you wouldn't be using the strongest aspects of the subclass (personally I think it would be better if it were just 1 aspect with 1 fragment slot and the third aspect be a new one or benevolent dawn)

The best solution for this problem is reworking some aspects and nerfing/buffing others and add a fourth one to enable more customization

Bungie Suggestion Bungie please make it easier to farm a weapon in Dares of Eternity loot pool.

After having done around 50 DoE Legend this weekend looking for decent rolls on some weapons, I still haven't even seen an Ikelos SMG. I have also focused all of my strange coins in engrams for possibly 100 attempts at getting it. The loot pool is a tad too big for only one drop per run.

I have two possibly suggestions, either make the engrams from strange coins more focusable such as kinetic weapon engrams, energy weapon engrams, and armor engrams. You could also instead have each activity in DoE give 1 reward upon completion.

Bungie Suggestion Let controller players map one action to two different button inputs

So I really love that we have full button remapping and I've seen some really creative solutions to some problems that come up when using a default controller but often times using these creative button inputs means you can't use the default input anymore.

For example I've seen many people talk about how they map interact/revive to double pressing their ADS button (usually L2/LT), this helps them get revives in trials without having to take their thumb off the control stick so they can continue to shoot back while getting the revive. I've tried this and it works but at times I'd like to be able to also interact/revive with just holding square/x when it's not a high-stakes situation like trials but this would mean I have to change my button mappings every time I go from trials to regular PvE.

I know this is a pretty niche situation but I think it would be beneficial if players could map each action to both a primary and secondary button input to give the player more flexibility.

Bungie Suggestion Please let us see the healthbar of our allies

In a game like Destiny where there are countless ways to apply healing to your team in both PvE and PvP, it baffles me that the only indication is a "!" by their name, which tells me nothing. Yes, I can see they're being shot at. No, I don't know if I should help them out or if they lost 2% of their health.

Discussion Anyone noticed that generic nightmares at the HELM are infected with egregore?

Didn't notice till this week, but it makes up for nice body horror. Some have disconnected head held by egregore vein, some have arms and legs mutated. Btw side-topic - Zavala's wife was scary af in the opening mission, her wild hair made her look like some poltergeist Alma-like.
