People also ask Why do tanuki have large balls?
The comical image of the tanuki having a large scrotum is thought to have developed during the Kamakura era, where goldsmiths would use tanuki pelts for the process of hammering gold nuggets into leaf. Tanuki may be shown with their testicles flung over their backs like travelers' packs, or using them as drums.
30
u/Drakeytown 3d ago
I feel like no two sentences in this paragraph connect as much as you might think they do. Pretend I'm an inexperienced dummy who has never used an animal pelt to hammer gold. How would that process lead one to believe the animal had giant testicles?
14
u/Smickey67 3d ago
I’m also an inexperienced dummy and I’m not rly sure why any of that about tanuki was brought up
13
u/Drakeytown 3d ago
Something to do with one animal being mistaken for another, tanuki also being called raccoon dogs, despite being neither racoons nor dogs? Dracula here certainly expects the reader to do most of the heavy lifting!

u/Ok-Kaleidoscope5627 3d ago
I can see why you'd be confused. You should watch the classic film by Studio Ghibli called Pom Poko. It will explain everything.

u/NeatNefariousness1 3d ago
Me too. LOL. But it seems like a lot of homework just to understand a comment. Even downvoting it takes more effort than it's worth. So, I'm making this new low-value comment to say I skipped the earlier one. 🤪

u/According-Note8863 3d ago
Thanks I didn't expect to learn anything in the comments but reddits full of surprises.
On a side note if they used their sacks as drums wouldn't that redefine beating your meat and sounds painful as hell I've sat on my balls before I couldn't imagine using them like bongos, that being said I'm sure someone gets off to the idea.

Only an idiot would believe this is a bear cub.
Oh, 23k upvotes…

Why? Intimate knowledge of bear cubs isn't some essential knowledge in the modern society, and believing an inconsequential picture is equally inconsequential. It literally doesn't matter if it's a bear cub or not
Idiots are the people who believe in important things despite evidence to the contrary. They are the people who refuse to learn, not those who don't know everything in the world
In fact, shaming the lack of knowledge itself is exactly how one would produce idiots. The more important it is to always look knowledgeable, the more likely it is that people will try to remain feeling knowledgeable regardless whether they know things or not. The more shamed people are for being ignorant, the more painful it will be for them to admit mistakes, and the more inclined they will be to hold on to their pre-existing beliefs and to their feeling of being always right

Eyebrows, dogs evolved to have them, wolves don't have them
24
u/AbsolutelyUnlikely 3d ago
That's an interesting fact, but what do we do with it here?
20
u/Ol-CAt 3d ago
it just means eyebrows are a unique feature of dogs other than humans which they evolved from to, the picture has an eyebrow
10
u/AbsolutelyUnlikely 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yes. But. This is a bear.
edit: welp I just went back and checked and it's a dog nevermind and I'm an idiot
18
u/scottandcoke 3d ago
Still. He should have said dogs have eyebrows and bears don't. Not sure why he's bringing wolves into it.
2
7
u/Empusa_pennata 3d ago
bears also have eyebrows, but the most notorious thing are the carnivore molars shaped like mountains instead of flat teeth.
2
u/spobrien09 3d ago
Your fact is wrong, dogs have more expressive eyebrows. Dogs, wolves, and coyotes, which using the Biological Species Concept can be considered the same species, they all have eyebrows.

They know It’s not a bear… I hope.. how many bears go yip yip, pant pant, and run around sniffing other dogs butts? If those weren’t giveaways aside from the fact it has canine features, then I’m concerned for humanity. Well, what am I saying, people mistake felt animal dolls for real creatures, and photoshopped pink and blue cats with lilac eyes as “rare cat colors”.. they probably did believe it was a real bear cub..

Pomeranian dogs who have dense and correct coats are often said to resemble a "teddy bear". Some dog breeds that look like stuffed animals:
- Bichon Frise
- Chow Chow
- Goldendoodle
- Great Pyrenees
- Tibetan Mastiff
- Poochon
- Pomsky
- aaaand... Pomeranian, of course

Imagine if the shelter mistook it for a dog and adopted it out. It would keep growing, and growing, and growing, and growing, and growing, and growing, and growing until they had a fully grown bear.

Dang if we could breed bears to remain this size and deposition; dogs and cats would be feeling the competition for mankind’s affection.
1
u/termacct 3d ago
It would be pretty cool to hang out with a bebe bear for a while. (of course there are issues like habituating to humans...)
