TIME SPLITTERS NO FUCKING WAYYYY woooooo

42

u/beet111 Jan 19 '22

I had no idea these games were backwards compatible!

19

u/LaboratoryManiac Jan 19 '22

They just added them a couple months ago as part of the final batch of back compat titles.

6

u/Voyce_Of_Treason Jan 19 '22

Final batch? As in no more games will be added to backwards compatibility moving forward? I've been waiting for years to be able to go back and play Midtown Madness 3. :(

11

u/cjeagle Jan 19 '22

Xbox said it was the final batch because of technical, licensing and marketing reasons but since Microsoft is potentially acquiring Activision/Blizzard, several Activision published games that hasn't been added yet to the BC list could potentially be added in the future along with other games where their publishers has a change of heart and gives them permission to do so.

6

u/LaboratoryManiac Jan 19 '22

That's correct. If it's not on the service now, it's not coming.

2

u/omgsoftcats Jan 19 '22

How well do they hold up?

7

u/Izdoy Jan 19 '22

That really depends. I grew up on them so they're just as great as I remember, however they are still very much in the vein of Goldeneye or Perfect Dark, not really dual stick, but run around, stop moving, hold down aim and shoot. Still a ton of nostalgic fun for me but I could see a more modern gamer that doesn't have the history not liking them much. For $2.50, if you're curious, give it a shot.

4

u/beet111 Jan 19 '22

I tried playing timesplitters 2 and the first few missions were rough. The aiming is really bad.

3

u/Bagz402 Jan 19 '22

Any time splitters before FP, not so well because of the goldeneye style rubber band aiming system. Future Perfect though holds up amazing.

2

u/TravisPeregrine Jan 20 '22

I have a really hard time aiming in timesplitters 2. Supposedly they already applied a fix that made it better than it used to be. I also have it on GameCube and it doesn't have any control issues.

2

u/hughmaniac Jan 19 '22

Hopefully they don’t interfere with the TS Rewind fan project.

3

u/Bagz402 Jan 19 '22

I've been following that project for about 14 years now. It's not going anywhere...

1

u/hughmaniac Jan 19 '22

It doesn’t help that they basically restarted the project in UE4 not too long ago. They’re making slow progress, but it’s absolutely not dead in the water.

12

u/Mc_Mac_N_Cheese Jan 19 '22

Just a warning the controller sensitivity is broken on both games. It's higher than the original versions.

12

u/igano Jan 19 '22

It says here that it was patched and it's better now (not perfect).

4

u/Mc_Mac_N_Cheese Jan 19 '22

Didn't know this. Thanks.

3

u/Ilikeitmate Jan 19 '22

Future perfect

18

u/MyUnclesALawyer Jan 18 '22

You gonna play it online via XLink Kai??? People still play Timesplitters 2/3 somewhat regularly

6

u/ogrejoe Jan 19 '22

Any advice as to whether to get 2 or Future Perfect?

25

u/nintendo9713 Jan 19 '22

BOTH.

Seriously, they are both incredible and we rotate them in weekly game nights. There's an active Discord group that plays via Xlink Kai.

14

u/ogrejoe Jan 19 '22

Let's just say I'm only going to play a quarter of the single player of one of them, because life. Which one should I play?

12

u/nintendo9713 Jan 19 '22

Definitely 2 then. 2 plays more "anthology-like" where each level is a different time period (new weapons, enemies, etc). FP is more linear where you should complete the entire thing to really experience it.

3

u/ogrejoe Jan 19 '22

Awesome, thank you.

7

u/Quibbloboy Jan 19 '22

Probably best not to take just one opinion on this. There are a good amount of die-hard fans of both 2 and 3 out there, and a lot of discussions tend to be fueled by thick nostalgia goggles.

Personally, I would advocate for 3, mostly just because the aiming isn't all fucked up. The reticle in 2 jumps away from the center of the screen every time you turn, and it makes it really frustrating to aim. Just my two cents, though.

1

u/zandengoff Jan 19 '22

What is the discord group?

10

u/TypographySnob Jan 19 '22

Haven't heard Xlink Kai mentioned in a long time. Good times playing Halo 2 online with split screen back in the day.

7

u/MyUnclesALawyer Jan 19 '22

Halo 2 is still constantly being played. Other games that are somewhat common these days are Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Crimson Skies, Mechassault, Rainbow Six 3, CoD 3. I played a full lobby of Return to Castle Wolfenstein once a few years ago and I still often think about it, was loads of fun

3

u/LickMyThralls Jan 19 '22

That was my first thought too. I loved times plotters I'm wondering if this has online

5

u/tjf311 Jan 19 '22

Lol at autocorrect...times plotters. :)

2

u/Squish_the_android Jan 19 '22

I bought it and checked. It doesn't.

2

u/JohnnyDarkside Jan 19 '22

Man I loved that game. Funny story, I rented TS2 once when I had my wisdom teeth out since I would be laid up for a bit but the pain killers I was given made me too nauseous when playing. I was so annoyed.

I was in ROTC in high school and someone would always bring a PS2 and TS on meets so we'd sit in the hotel and have tournaments.

u/mkdota Jan 18 '22

They put a ton of backwards compatible games on sale this week including many of the ones that were just added as part of the last wave. Use either of these true achievement links for easy browsing.

https://www.trueachievements.com/products/xbox-sales?saleid=2054 https://www.trueachievements.com/n48389/xbox-sale-roundup-january-18th-2022

For me in Canada Dead Space is only CDN$1.97 for example.

11

u/MyUnclesALawyer Jan 18 '22

strange, its 5.99 CAD for me

57

u/SwineHerald Jan 19 '22

A reminder that the original Xbox version of Splinter Cell Double Agent is a completely different game from the 360 version, and significantly better. It was handled by the Chaos Theory team and is basically just more Chaos Theory.

13

u/DawgBro Jan 19 '22

The plots are different enough too that it is absolutely worth playing the original Xbox version. I definitely think it is the better game.

6

u/SilverNicktail Jan 19 '22

Which one's the one on PC then?

7

u/Luc4_Blight Jan 19 '22

The 360 version. Just emulate the PS2 version instead if you are on PC

29

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

Some great titles here. Personally I picked up:

  • Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect (great prices considering they just got added recently)
  • Burnout Revenge (if you loved Burnout 3 and skipped this, or if you love arcade racers, you NEED to play this game and the 360 version is the best version)
  • Ultra Street Fighter IV (really great price, I can't remember ever seeing it this cheap)
  • Gunvalkyrie (another recent addition, third-person SEGA action from OG XBOX).

There's a lot of other great picks of course.

4

u/cjackson_ Jan 19 '22

Doesn't Burnout have licensed music? How it is still available? Most racing game get delisted in a few years. I was searching for arcade racing lately, and want to try Midnight Club LA. Which one is better in your opinion?

8

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

I guess they must have licensed the music for a longer period? I don't know the answer.

Personally, I think Burnout is better. Burnout 3 is my favorite racing game of all time, period, and Revenge is almost as good. Midnight Club LA is also good but it's more about pure racing and customizing your car etc. Burnout is pure arcade action, pick a car and start racing or smashing shit.

3

u/Scops Jan 19 '22

I miss the Burnout series so much. I know the team got moved over to Need for Speed, but Burnout was almost as much a car combat game as a racer. NFS couldn't rip up licensed cars in the same way and it just took so much of the fun out of it.

6

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

Same. And sadly Burnout Paradise didn't really do it for me. It was okay, but not the same as the previous games. 3 and Revenge (and I guess the PSP games though they were mostly retreads) were king.

2

u/cjackson_ Jan 19 '22

is that the same version of PSP version back at the day? PSP sometimes got the scrapped version of the games, but I remember playing two Burnout games which were great. If it is same I might and go play MCLA this time.

6

u/skeeballcore Jan 19 '22

Burnout Revenge is like nothing else. Pure thrills and action. So good.

4

u/Arpyr Jan 19 '22

Games like Midnight Club still exist. Games like Burnout don’t. Give it a shot.

5

u/MaxGiao Jan 19 '22

Ultra SFIV

is just an upgrade to the ultra edition.

You needs to have the base game (this is the only version capcom sells):

https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/super-streetfighter-iv-arcade-edition/BRRN3ZC632XS/0001

Pretty terrible deal.

1

u/sdcar1985 Jan 19 '22

Is it actually Ultra SFIV or is it Super because the image is Super, but everything else says Ultra.

19

u/HawterSkhot Jan 19 '22

Was Time Splitters always available? I had no idea!

17

u/nintendo9713 Jan 19 '22

Very recent. Welcome back to the Timesplitters cult.

5

u/Gigantotron Jan 19 '22

Yup. The last backwards compatible wave featured heavily requested games.

11

u/squidbiskets Jan 19 '22 edited Jan 19 '22

Grabbed both TimeSplitters, very nice price for such good games.

11

u/cjeagle Jan 19 '22 edited Jan 20 '22

In case anyone is interested there is several console exclusives on the list you won't be able to purchase on PCs including Saints Row 1, The Darkness 1, Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Revolver, Time Splitters 1 and 2 , Conan, Dead Rising 2 Case Zero, Burnout Revenge, Fable 2, Fable 3(delisted on steam), Elements of Destruction, Fight Night Champion, Gears of War 2 , 3 and Judgement, Gunvalkyrie, Midnight Club Los Angeles, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Asura's Wrath, Splinter Cell Double Agent (OG Xbox version), Midnight Club LA and Rockstar Table Tennis.

1

u/Stoibs Jan 19 '22

Can Dead Rising 2 Case Zero be bought and played standalone?

→ More replies

10

u/stryder25 Jan 19 '22

Been waiting for Asura's Wrath to go back on sale. Hell yeah

28

u/PokemonMaster619 Jan 19 '22

I was about to finally break down and buy Skate 3 anyway, so this works out perfectly! I can also finally experience the first two Saints Row games.

11

u/Soilworking Jan 19 '22

SR2 was my favorite, but possibly because I played with someone else and we were baked the entire time. It added gravitas to the story

7

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

Honestly I liked them all. Thought they were all worth playing, but having said that I played them when they came out, not now.

I imagine #1 probably doesn't hold up amazingly (its big appeal at the time was that it was a next gen open world GTA-style game 2 years before GTA IV came out).

3

u/Mutantlove Jan 19 '22

Definitely my favorite as well finishing campaign in co op is an absolute blast, also 3 is when things really start getting off the rails

9

u/Omegamanthethird Jan 19 '22

Looks like I'm buying Deus Ex for 2.50 and buying a digital version of Fable 2 as well.

10

u/stankit Jan 19 '22

Yes!! More people can experience the amazingness of the Timesplitters 2 and 3!

9

u/AlJoelson Jan 19 '22

Which one's better? TimeSplitters 2 or 3?

11

u/YellowPikachu Jan 19 '22 edited Jan 19 '22

2 is like an evolved version of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark with better controls, graphics, and framerate. While FP is more modernized and polished in terms of gameplay and UI (takes a lot of inspiration from at the time modern FPS like Halo and Half Life 2). Basically if you played early console FPSs like Goldeneye and early PS2 games like Medal of Honor you'll like 2. If you played FPS from the mid-2000s onward you'll probably enjoy FP more

2

u/AlJoelson Jan 19 '22

Sounds like I could enjoy either one! Another thing I was considering was emulating them in Dolphin, although there's the fact that the Xbox One renders them at such a higher resolution anyway.

3

u/YellowPikachu Jan 19 '22

I have them on NGC but $2 for the ease of use is amazing (especially when friends come over)

6

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

Both gave their merits and both are easily worth the low asking price here.

What I will say is that FP has a more linear but better campaign (the story in TS2 is kinda nothing and the missions are barely strung together) and the multiplayer is arguably better especially if you just wanna play with bots and do challenges.

Other people saying 2's campaign is like GoldenEye aren't wrong, the structure is similar, however I personally think it has some really good levels and others that are kinda turds.

4

u/amedeus Jan 19 '22

2 for multiplayer, 3 for campaign.

2

u/jdoggw Jan 19 '22

It's debatable. My vote is for 2. 3 is still good and more modernized but it was published by EA and has less of a unique feel to it

2

u/ketchupthrower Jan 19 '22

TS2 is the better game. A true successor to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. TS3 is still very much worth paying though.

1

u/jtn19120 Jan 19 '22

2 is probably best

8

u/snokeflake Jan 19 '22

Oh boy. It’s time to split.

7

u/fil3d Jan 19 '22

Panzer Dragoon: Orta ... BOUGHT

2

u/IsaacStitch Jan 19 '22

7

u/epeternally Jan 19 '22 edited Jan 20 '22

I put together a spreadsheet of all the games on sale with PC availability and historic lows where applicable. Some of them use the recent sale price to avoid giving unrealistic numbers. I also included which games have a PS3 version, info about remasters, comparison videos for the Tomb Raider trilogy, and a few recommendations of my own.

2

u/solaceinsound Jan 19 '22

you're currently requiring people to request access to this helpful spreadsheet, fyi

3

u/epeternally Jan 20 '22

2

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

They probably won't go on sale ever again now that the Master Collection exists (it'll be sales on the Master Collection instead).

2

u/narlex Jan 19 '22

Right, the only problem is the Master Collection is using the Sigma versions which are... well.. pretty different for those looking for the original experience. I would also be on-board to play the original Ninja Gaiden Black & 2 after seeing the comparisons.

2

u/fhs Jan 19 '22

IMO, the originals are worth their price even without discounts if you've never played them.

1

u/cjeagle Jan 19 '22

I have been waiting for a discount on those for years but it never goes on sale on Xbox so I ended up buying NG Black for the regular price of $9.99 late last year.

7

u/nitesiege Jan 19 '22

Wow no one exited for Asuras Wrath on here?

2

u/GayNerd28 Jan 19 '22

I originally played through on the PS3, but am totally willing to drop AU$6 to relieve that masterpiece!

2

u/DivineBloodline Jan 19 '22

I never play this game, all I remember is that the ending or late part of the game was in a DLC and that was very scummy practice. What type of game is it?

5

u/cbxbl Jan 19 '22 edited Jan 19 '22

I'm confused. Many of the games have "Xbox 360" on the cover art, but are listed as playable on the "Xbox One" and "Xbox Series X|S"... without mentioning the 360.

Will they play on the 360 also, or do they require a newer system?

Thanks! :-)

Edit: I was told they will work in case anyone else only has a 360 like me :-P

6

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

I think it is just the site. It doesn't list 360 as a platform because it is only designed for XB1 and Series consoles. They actually have another older site for 360 that still exists.

Regardless to answer your question: any 360 game you buy on here should work on an actual 360. They are purchased on the account and you can use the account on a 360.

The only exception is the original XBOX titles which I am pretty sure will not work on the 360 as digital downloads.

6

u/Little_Lebowski_007 Jan 19 '22

The only exception is the original XBOX titles which I am pretty sure will not work on the 360 as digital downloads.

To add to this (because I have a 360 and was curious): this page lists the OG Xbox games that are compatible with the 360. This page mentions the following:

Note: Most backward compatible Original Xbox games can be played on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. However, some backward compatible Original Xbox games are only available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles and won’t play on Xbox 360.

So, some Xbox games (download or disc) might work with a 360, but some (such as TimeSplitters) need an Xbox One or Series X | S.

5

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

Ah okay. I wasn't 100% sure on that, I figured none of the downloads would work since they weren't available when the 360 was current (even though those games were always backwards compatible). Maybe the exceptions like TimeSplitters were not on the original XBOX-to-360 backwards compatibility list.

3

u/litewo Jan 19 '22

Panzer Dragoon worked for me on an Xbox 360. As long as it's BC on the 360, I think it should be fine.

Aliens vs Predator for $5 is tempting.

Puzzle Fighter for $2!

4

u/Benneticus Jan 19 '22

I played this game 5+ years ago on Steam and I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it. For reference, I love the Alien franchise but I've never seen any of the Predator movies. There's 3 separate campaigns, marines, aliens, and predator. None of the individual campaigns are mind blowing or revolutionary, but it was just one of those games that kept me entertained the whole time and didn't overstay it's welcome.

2

u/Spooky_SZN Jan 19 '22

It's weirdly memorable for how unmemorable it is. It's just a very competent game in an era where licensed games were anything but, they knew what they wanted and accomplished it well

3

u/Zadbxrry Jan 19 '22

bro can you still play puzzle fighter remix? i swear i would get an xbox just for that lol

1

u/PenguinBomb Jan 19 '22

Is that the RTS one? That game was so much gun. Mainly as an Alien.

2

u/treblah3 Jan 19 '22

Nah the fps one. I didn't try the RTS one cus those aren't my thing but I heard it was good too

2

u/PenguinBomb Jan 19 '22

Went and watched some game play. It actually looks really good.

1

u/Gunner_McNewb Jan 19 '22

I usually couldn't play a rts on console, but I enjoyed that particular one.

1

u/PenguinBomb Jan 19 '22

I didn't even know there was an fps on Xbox 360. Where tf was I?

4

u/nintendo9713 Jan 19 '22

Any other games besides Halo and Timesplitters 2/ FP that are 4 player split screen with LAN capability? I LAN'd these so much back in the day, but now my monthly LAN parties are just MCC and Gears of War (3 per TV) on Xbox 1's since no modern games have split screen LAN play :(

5

u/ducked Jan 19 '22

I’ve never played timesplitters. Should I start with the first one or just skip ahead to the second? Always loved goldeneye.

4

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

The first one flat out sucks. Don't bother with it. It also isn't on XBOX, it was PS2 only.

Just start with TimeSplitters 2. Future Perfect is #3, both are great. The first game stinks and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Frankly the story is not very important in these games and in TS2 it is very disjointed anyway (3 is a lot more... coherent).

1

u/ducked Jan 19 '22

Ok cool thanks. Yeah most people don’t talk about the first so I wasn’t sure.

4

u/beingblazed Jan 19 '22

Burnout revenge was the shiz

4

u/yepgeddon Jan 19 '22

Fuck man give me EA skate on PC game pass and I'll never unsubscribe.

5

u/sniping_dreamer Jan 19 '22

Picked up Asura's Wrath and TimeSplitters Future perfect. Any console-exclusive games here that's not native to PC, even if it can be emulated? Already got Red Dead Redemption

11

u/Jungulate Jan 19 '22

Too bad these aren't available on PC..

5

u/working-acct Jan 19 '22

I’m very tempted to buy an xbox series S just to play some of these old games.

2

u/BrandoTheCommando Jan 20 '22

The S is honestly a great little console. Between being able to download all my old xbox/xbox 360 games, a crap ton of new stuff with game pass, and Roblox/Minecraft for the kiddo....ours has been seeing a lot of use!

Edit: Since I still had my xbox 360 login account, I was able to download everything I had purchased on there already.

3

u/bongo1138 Jan 19 '22

You should. It’s a great console.

0

u/ex_planelegs Jan 19 '22

Emulate them instead

2

u/epeternally Jan 19 '22

Have you actually used Xenia? Only a handful of games are in playable shape. Xemu is better but not the easiest thing to setup, and there's still a handful of titles that just don't work on it. Not to mention that you get achievements for the Xbox 360 games if you actually own them. I'm an emulation enthusiast, but it's not for everyone. There's a steep learning curve.

2

u/portableteejay Jan 19 '22

Most of these are on PC though, and PC sales tend to run cheaper than console as well.

https://isthereanydeal.com/

28

u/epeternally Jan 19 '22

About half of them don't have a PC version, actually. Asura's Wrath, The Darkness, Timesplitters, Red Dead Redemption, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, Burnout Revenge, Fable II, Fight Night Champion, three Gears of War games, Midnight Club LA, Skate 1 & 3, Sonic Unleashed, Saints Row, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Puzzle Fighter, Red Dead Revolver, Rockstar's Table Tennis, Stuntman: Ignition, Gunvalkyrie, both Spongebob games and the Avatar tie-in. Tomb Raider: Legend and Underworld have visual features that are exclusive to the Xbox 360 version IIRC.

9

u/portableteejay Jan 19 '22

The mostly alphabetical nature of this list makes it look like the result of some thorough work. Your time spent to reply is appreciated. Are there any additional titles of the 137 on sale without PC versions?

5

u/epeternally Jan 19 '22

Thanks! I actually went the full overkill route and made a complete spreadsheet of the games on sale with exclusivity status and PC historic lows where applicable. A few of them use the price from recent sales to avoid giving unrealistic numbers. Also made note of PC games that are no longer available digitally, dug up comparison videos for the PC and 360 Tomb Raider games, and threw in a few of my own recommendations.

3

u/Spooky_SZN Jan 19 '22

Oh shit the SpongeBob games are in this? Sick

3

u/TheGobler Jan 19 '22

3

u/Manny-Both-Hanz Jan 19 '22

Man, PC modding is awesome.

u/LickMyThralls Jan 19 '22

I almost want to get an Xbox just for them now

5

u/shiftend Jan 19 '22 edited Jan 19 '22

Do it, you can get an Xbox Series S fairly cheap nowadays second hand. Lots of people bought one to tide them over until they could get their hands on a PS5 or a Series X. Those things will only be a little over a year old at max. Around here (Belgium) you can easily find second hand ones looking mint for only €200 to €220. Even if you play them and finish them, you could probably sell the console again for the same price so you'll only be out 5 bucks for the games.

The Series S renders backwards compatible games in 1440p (Series X renders them in 4K), so they'll look a lot sharper than on the original consoles (see this Eurogamer article). Microsoft has even managed to increase the framerate for certain games that were locked to 30fps by the developers running in backwards compatibility mode (see this article on FPS Boost).

u/Stoibs Jan 19 '22

Yep I have a cheap secondhand Series S to compliment my PS5 and Switch. Apart from it just being good in general to own all 3 platforms+PC so you never miss out on exclusives; that little thing is actually quite an impressive beast for the price, and the relative size of it makes it viable to just bring around when visiting someone with kids or whatever also.

Only drawback is the tiny joke of SSD space =(

Thankfully it's not my 'main' device and it's why I mostly just stick to some Gamepass titles or things like these Timesplitters.

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

Because they are backwards compatible games, not ports. Way less work (also why many of them are very cheap).

4

u/NebulaCake Jan 19 '22

I know it's probably not what you're looking for, but if you have decent internet you can play it on a windows computer with PSNow

16

u/TheVostros Jan 19 '22

Iirc the studio that made Red dead lost the source in a crash or something, meaning they can't make a port of it

6

u/austinzone813 Jan 19 '22

Sonic generations gets both a 4k bump and a 60fps .

Sad thing is I just got it on disc last week.

But I can always resell the disc!

3

u/caninehere Jan 19 '22

I always prefer to have the discs tbh but most of the time they're way more expensive these days.

BTW you might already be aware but even if you play Sonic Generations (or any other enhanced game) from the disc it will still play the enhanced version. The disc is basically just a key to access it, unless you aren't connected to the internet I guess.

1

u/AlJoelson Jan 19 '22

Only for Series X, though, right?

3

u/HenryJOlsen Jan 19 '22

IIRC on Xbox One X it runs at 4k 30FPS. And on Series S it runs at 1440p 60FPS.

1

u/AlJoelson Jan 19 '22

Shame the 60fps won't come to the One X - I'd even take it rendering at a lower resolution like 1440p (or native 1080p).

3

u/Mightymap2 Jan 19 '22

these are all digital? not physical copies right?

3

u/mkdota Jan 19 '22

Correct.

2

u/CFGX Jan 19 '22

Any good choices here that have performance patches on new consoles?

2

u/Triplescrew Jan 19 '22

Apologies if it's obvious, but does it say how long these sales last?

3

u/mkdota Jan 19 '22

I believe a week from yesterday.

2

u/MrkJulio Jan 19 '22

I've been waiting AGES for a sale like this.

Panzer dragoon? LET"S GO!

2

u/HyoOfTheMany Jan 19 '22

Wonderful sale! I just bought the first two Max Payne and Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara!

2

u/sdcar1985 Jan 19 '22

Man, I wish I had an xbox now just for BC.

2

u/JunkHead1979 Jan 19 '22

Has anyone been having issues completing orders? I have 12 items in my cart but I keep getting the "Oops." error when i try to complete the order.

2

u/rutang5 Jan 20 '22

Yes, same here. The Checkout button is greyed out for me.

2

u/NotAnADC Jan 19 '22

How does the original Red Dead Redemption hold up as someone who has never played either?

2

u/Blasterslinger Jan 19 '22

It holds up extremely well and plays well on the Xbox One. There's a fluidity and ease of play in RDR1 that still makes it worth playing. The story is amazing and worth playing even after the credits.

While RDR2 is a prequel to RDR1, I would recommend playing RDR1 first.

Red Dead Revolver is also on sale and I don't think that one holds up as well. It's still enjoyable as a level based action game, though.

1

u/NotAnADC Jan 19 '22

thanks i might check it out!

u/mkdota Jan 19 '22

No, these are for xbox consoles only since they don't have an Xbox emulator for Windows.

Fuck if Amped 3 was on there I might buy a console.

2

u/mando44646 Jan 19 '22

was hoping for Star Wars games. Am disappointed

1

u/cjeagle Jan 19 '22

They sometimes have those on sale as well. Check on May 4th which is unofficially a Star Wars themed day.

1

u/MrManicMarty Jan 19 '22

Stupid question, these can't be bought or played on PC right, this is Xbox backwards compatible?

3

u/cjeagle Jan 19 '22 edited Jan 19 '22

Many are console exclusives and cannot be bought on PCs including Saints Row 1 and 2, The Darkness 1, Red Dead Redemption, RedDead Revolver, Time Splitters 1 and 2 , Conan, Dead Rising 2 Case Zero,Burnout Revenge, Fable 2, Fable 3(delisted on steam), Elements of Destruction,Fight Night Champion, Gears of War 2 , 3 and Judgement, Gunvalkyrie,Midnight Club Los Angeles, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Asura's Wrath, SplinterCell Double Agent (OG Xbox version), Midnight Club LA and Rockstar Table Tennis.

Many games on the list though are multiplatform games that are also available on PCs.

1

u/epeternally Jan 19 '22

Saints Row 2 very much is on PC, although the port has a number of issues. It's just the first one that was console exclusive.

why cant we play on computer?

7

u/mkdota Jan 19 '22

These are older games that were never released on windows.

5

u/hippyzippy Jan 19 '22

There's no official Xbox emulator published by Microsoft for PC.

u/Hurter_of_Feelings Jan 19 '22

Boy, am I glad I got my chipped OG XBOX with 400 GB IDE HDD and my RGH 360 with 1 TB HDD.

Software based backwards compatibility is great and all, but nothing beats original hardware.

9

u/Zealousideal-Crow814 Jan 19 '22

I mean, this handily beats the original hardware. The games run better and many have 4k support.

1

u/social_gamer Jan 19 '22 edited Jan 19 '22

Should I pick up The Darkness and Splinter Cell Double Agent (original Xbox) for $6?

I already dropped $5 on Time Splitters & $4 on The Darkness with no regrets.

Edit: I have Double Agent on Ubi but people say the OG Xbox is better. I haven't even gotten to Splinter Cell yet in my backlog.

6

u/iBobaFett Jan 19 '22

The OG Xbox version of Double Agent is basically a completely different game from the Xbox 360/PS3/PC version. OG Xbox was made by the Chaos Theory team, it's far, far better than the other version.

1

u/VS209 Jan 19 '22

Sorry for the dumb question but are these all just digital?

1

u/SilverNicktail Jan 19 '22

Naturally, nothing on my wishlist is on sale, lol. You don't fancy ever discounting Triggerheart Exelica, Microsoft?

1

u/pixelotes Jan 19 '22

Bought both Timesplitters games. Multiplayer in 3 is as fun as I remember.

Have some of those devs worked at Rare? Because I've noticed strong Perfect Dark vibes.

1

u/SpiderZiggs Jan 19 '22

So my wife owns a copy of RDR and took that opportunity to boot it up and play again and lemme tell you, it holds up to today's standards.

There's some antiquated gameplay that you won't miss in today's games, but it most definitely holds up to today's standards, both graphically and from a gameplay standpoint.

1

u/lostincleveland Jan 19 '22

Is the Red Dead Redemption DLC undead nightmare any good? I see it is 10 dollars for that, but wondering if it's worth it.
