The original still is a great 3d tower defense. 2 and awakened are meh at best. For $1 it's a great deal. I'd even say $14.14 for the dlc is great.

I think this bundle is more about exposure than a good bundle price.

Going Rogue just launched a couple weeks ago... bundled with Awakened for $27 on Steam... nobody is playing either.

Or now $25 on Humble with some other older games and Free2Play addons.

So I don't see it as much of a discount, just a way to get their games out there a bit more.

to much f2p pricing, they don't know what a good deal looks like anymore

2

u/SilentR0b Apr 15 '22

I'm thinking most people who are/were interested in it, already have it (the original). For those folks, if they don't have the dlc/micros, is it worth $25 for DD2? And most of us (bundle watchers) should probably already own the base game and probably see $25 as too much for what is there.
To me, there's no value in pulling the trigger (I own the original game from an ooooold bundle) on this one, since I have no desire to touch the second.

Do not support these devs. They keep making cash grab after cash grab, abandoning the previous game.

You can find DD1 collection for less on sale, just stick with that + the Redux beta.

u/BeerGogglesFTW Apr 15 '22

I loved Dungeon Defenders back in its day. I even enjoyed Dungeon Defenders 2 for awhile.

But everything since then, has screamed cash-grab to me. Even reading the kick-starter description for Awakened a few years ago... said something like (loosely paraphrased) "This is to fund Dungeon Defenders Awakened, and that game's profits will be used to fund Dungeon Defenders 3"

It seems they now made Dungeon Defenders 1, 3 times, and neither remakes were successful. Considering how unhappy people seem to be with Awakened, (I mean, they must be, there are no players), it seems rather than adding and fixing... They launched and bundled "Going Rogue"? Another DD game with mixed feedback and no players.

Seems desperate. Bad moves are being made, and they seem lost. I think their twitter shows that as well polling the community, what can they do to improve things.

All I've ever really wanted out of DD1 was an update that makes it a little less grindy and maybe scale a bit for solo play in the non-main-questline missions. But they just keep remaking it over and over.

I'd also be more interested in DD2 if it showed off my accomplishments in my tavern like in DD1, but I don't think that's ever going to happen. It took them years just to notice they left the tavern on Christmas mode.

This is a series that is always very nearly what I want, and something I sort of love, but I always wind up quitting much earlier than expected.

12

u/Blastinburn Apr 15 '22

All I want out of DD1 is a functional inventory not dredged from the depths of the hell dimension. My play group had to stop our playthrough because we spent so much time just fighting with the inventory we barely played.

With regard to the "profits from this game will be used to fund the next game" part, that is how game development generally works. You either get a publisher to fund your game, or you have to fund it out of your own pocket or with the profits from your previous game, or some combination of the above.

If each game was good that wouldn't be an issue. The issue is that the subsequent games have failed to live up to the standard set by the first game, and rather than fixing or improving the games the devs just move on the next game. Which is obviously problematic.

Personally, I couldn't even get into Dungeon Defenders. It seemed like something I would like, but something about it (the art design or field of view?) made me feel slightly nauseous.

Get 1EUR pack if you haven't played it before, don't bother with the rest

13

u/MyNameIs-Anthony Apr 15 '22

And set the slider to only support Charity and Humble.

Humble Bundles with MTX are insta-ignores from me.

4

u/timmyboyoyo Apr 16 '22

What is mtx

8

u/nietzkore Apr 16 '22

MTX stands for MicroTransaCTion. X can make a Z-sound or a KS-sound in words. I don't know where it came around from but it's pretty common now.

TX (or sometimes TXN) is a common abbreviation for transaction and other trans-something words. Bitcoin uses Tx for transmission in Transaction Hash (Tx Hash) and Transaction ID (TxID). It's used in aviation to stand for Transmitter. In the old telegraph days it stood for Transmission or Transmit. In medical terms it can stand for several things including Transplant.

MTX can also be used for Manual Transmission, referring to a car with a stick shift.

Is informational thank!

u/Dally83 Apr 15 '22

I really loved DD1, had so much fun with it. The down side is they judt loaded it with DLC.

Since one, everything else has been not so good.

4

u/Tucci89 Apr 15 '22

I haven't played it in a long time, but I loved the original DD. The only issue I had with it back then was that it was not at all balanced for solo play, especially with certain characters.

5

u/Reltsirk Apr 16 '22

havent they re released dd1 like 5 times by now?

4

u/Zurcez Apr 15 '22

DD1 is still to this day one of my favorite games but the franchise has been on a serious downward spiral pretty much ever since the first game’s life cycle ended.

4

u/tyler99b Apr 16 '22

Is the dlc for 1 any good? I’m def going to pick up the base game for $1, I just don’t know if I really wanna throw in so much more money just for dlc.

4

u/Lancer876 Apr 16 '22

I'll probably buy into the $15 bundle. Sounds like the first game is really good, and that plus its DLC is $13. For 2 more dollars I'll also get Awakened.

4

u/kamui_ Apr 17 '22

If they tiered DD + DLC collection for 1€ or at least put a "normal" price <5€ for tier 2 maybe by now they will have achived to collect a good amountof $$$. But they decided to move from 1€ to 13€ just for an ancient DLC bundle. Stupidity alert! Reaching extraterestial level! Put your wallet back in your pocket and stay safe.

8

u/MrMonteCristo71 Apr 15 '22

Seems pretty pricey for a game I never heard of before. Is this any good?

36

u/Ceronn Apr 15 '22

I won't support the developers. Not only do they overpromise and underdeliver with their early access games, their company has been embroiled in scandals for a while. Here's an article on how they rebranded themselves a few years back:

Get Orcs Must Die 2 + 3 instead. Much more polished, less MTX out the ass, and a lot less shitty of a company that doesn't have a history of rampant sexism and suing employees for continuing to work in the industry.

Similar to the new Hitman trilogy, you can even play Orcs Must Die levels in Orcs Must Die 2 with new gear if you own both.

5

u/nerveagent24v Apr 15 '22

Absolutely this, I had a blast with Orcs Must Die 3. I have yet to try the dlcs, however.

1

u/amedeus Apr 15 '22

I played a bit of the first one and thought it was kinda fun but not amazing, and it just didn't scratch that DD itch for me. Are 2 and 3 much better?

1

u/MyNameIs-Anthony Apr 15 '22

If you didn't cling to 1, you probably won't like 2. It's more of the same but better.

23

u/BeerGogglesFTW Apr 15 '22

You've never heard of Dungeon Defenders? Or its sequels and remakes?

Dungeon Defenders was very popular ~10 years ago. Worth a buck if you never played it.

2

u/AfraidStill2348 Apr 15 '22 edited Apr 15 '22

I've been gaming forever and I haven't either. What makes you think it's worth a buck?

e:not sure why I am being down voted. I appreciate OPs response.

18

u/BeerGogglesFTW Apr 15 '22

I'd say its worth $4. Buy 1 and gift 3 copies to friends.

Its just a lot of fun to play with friends. Good tower defense game mixed with action and looting.

Gets chaotic and just fun. But not a game I ever played solo. Great game with friends.

Or, trying Dungeon Defenders II Free2Play... but really nothing lived up to DD1 imo.

3

u/AfraidStill2348 Apr 15 '22

I might just pick this bundle up. Sounds interesting.

Thanks!

1

u/RickSore Apr 16 '22

It has tons of content specially paired with dlcs (which adds more classes). I stuck with the base game and enjoyed it for at least 30 hours. Has tons of replayability. More fun with friends.

1

u/Shadowlette Apr 15 '22

Buy DD1 collection for less at some point and play the Redux beta.

7

u/AirFries Apr 15 '22

Umm.. Gems? In a PC game? What?

14

u/LKMarleigh Apr 15 '22

Dungeon Defenders 2 is a f2p game with a cash shop

9

u/swordtut Apr 15 '22

f2p? man i'll have to pass because i don't have enough cash to play a f2p game

6

u/amedeus Apr 16 '22

The first one (in the dollar tier) isn't f2p. It does have DLC though, which is included in the second tier.

2

u/swordtut Apr 16 '22

i preordered it and have the portal gun that is mostly useless. i didn't like the grinding and the level system messes up the ability to play with friends. i was making a f2p joke
