I would recommend this game if people are interested in simulation/tycoon/management style games, but haven't really played them before. The game is very straightforward, it guides you very well and creating dinosaurs is just a really cool theme that I imagine would appeal to many people. That said, I don't think there's a ton of depth and I personally stopped after about 20 hours since it started feeling tedious (which I was happy with). If you have experience with similar style games, you may find this one dull.

23

u/anarchistica Apr 27 '22

Yeah, it's extremely shallow. Basically any other theme park sim will have vastly more options. Instead of having any depth when it comes to management (there's only one type of hotel for instance) JW has you doing hundreds of stupid repetitive "missions" (e.g. take a photo of x type of dino drinking, research x fossil).

I was one of those kids who loved dinos even before Jurassic Park came out and i still thought it was rather dull.

8

u/yumz Apr 27 '22

In addition to being really shallow, I also found the voice acting to be unbearable.

6

u/m4ttos Apr 28 '22

would you say it's kid friendly? 6yo loves dinos and is slowly but surely getting into gaming - if I monitored while they played would they be able to play partly/mostly by themselves or is it too much for a kid to grasp? I have zero experience with tycoon type games so I dunno what to expect

3

u/KierkegaardExpress Apr 29 '22

I think so. There's some violence, like when dinosaurs escape they kill guests or if incompatible dinos meet they may fight, but it's not very graphic and probably at the level of a cartoon. The game is also reminding you constantly what to do next so that might provide a clear path forward, and the first few levels are very easy.

1

u/m4ttos Apr 30 '22

awesome, kid should definitely be able to handle that, thanks!

3

u/Levitlame Apr 27 '22

The theme is super on point, and it's visually solid. That and the theme song every time I start the game is probably why I put like 30 hours in hahaha

u/Captainquizzical Apr 27 '22

There is zero chance of coincidence that this bundle hit the same day Prehistoric Kingdom released...

37

u/timmyboyoyo Apr 27 '22

Good detective skills

18

u/A_MAN_POTATO Apr 27 '22

I've never even heard of this, but it looks sick! Getting it now.

6

u/cwcisdumb Apr 28 '22

The reviews are promising, although it is still very much in early access.

10

u/bongo1138 Apr 27 '22

Is that game any good? Never heard of it.

-16

u/xenthum Apr 27 '22

It can't be as bad as the Jurassic World game that's for sure

3

u/Mich-666 Apr 28 '22

On first glance it looks and plays better than JWE, added to wishlist instantly.

2

u/K3nway93 Apr 28 '22

Is it better than Jurassic world 2? The price and review look promising

4

u/SilverShark307 Apr 29 '22

As of now?? Jurassic World Evolution 2 surpasses it in every way, give it a year or two? it's definitely better

1

u/jerkberg0118 Apr 28 '22

I'm watching the dev play on steam, they have Nigel Marven from Prehistoric Park/Walking With Dinosaurs in the tutorial - looks worth a go

1

u/CraftsmanMan Apr 28 '22

Is it pretty much planet zoo but dinosaurs?

-21

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '22

31

u/G-SW-7892 Apr 27 '22

Take my downvote and politely leave. You clearly haven't played PK. Even in early access it's much better than JWE. Tiny indie dev team outperforming a AAA title, that's pretty special.

-34

u/okp11 Apr 27 '22

Is it 30 times better? Because the indie game is 30 times more expensive and I'm pretty over studios of any size launching games as early access so they can use that as an excuse for the next two years for why the game isn't finished.

15

u/G-SW-7892 Apr 27 '22

Indie game has just released. JWE has been out for a long time hence the sale. You clearly know nothing about the game, the developers or their update plans for the game. So I'll let you hate on a game you know nothing about. But in a years time you'll look back and realise PK is miles ahead of JWE.

-26

u/okp11 Apr 27 '22

Lol you clearly know way too much about this game to be impartial.

Early access is definitively bad for the consumer and continues to be abused by devs who want money but don't have a finished product.

9

u/G-SW-7892 Apr 27 '22 edited Apr 27 '22

Nobody is telling you to buy it. You can sit back, watch the game develop and hop in whenever you think it's worthy.

What I will say is, check the steam reviews.

The dev team started with 5 people I believe, currently sits at 15. How are they supposed to keep developing something with no financial clout. If you've been in the discord or seen their trello Road map then you'd understand whats ALREADY been added and what's TO COME.

Early access can be bad, some devs do get up and run with the money. But this is a passion project which has been in development for 7 or 8 years. Its already come so far. Also backed by Crytivo, this game won't fail.

0

u/SegataSanshiro Apr 28 '22

If being informed means you are not impartial, then you seem like somebody who might actually be completely immune to ever being biased on any subject.

-2

u/Wise_Mongoose_3930 Apr 28 '22

I got JWE for free and I still think I overpaid so yea, PK is probably 30x better (because zero times thirty is still zero)

-7

u/okp11 Apr 28 '22

So you are calling both games a zero?

Got it.

2

u/Wise_Mongoose_3930 Apr 28 '22

I’ve actually never even played PK, I just know JWE is overpriced at $1

-16

u/voneahhh Apr 27 '22

So they decide to do it with a third party key shop instead of just putting the game on sale on Steam (where it’s full price)

0

u/Griever114 Apr 28 '22

Would you recommend the indie over JPW?

79

u/scootbert Apr 27 '22

Base game for $1 is an excellent deal if you do not own the game and would like to play it. I think I put around 45 hours into the base game and enjoyed it.

I want to play the DLC, but I have kind of lost interest in the game and not sure $8 is worth it for me. I could be wrong though

EDIT: To get the two best DLC with story content, you need to purchase the entire bundle for $12.

43

u/Thor1138 Apr 27 '22

Top tier is 100% worth it for the Jurassic Park DLC alone. That's by far the best content for the game with the original actors from the first movie (except Richard Attenborough for obvious reasons), original park design/buildings and short campaign.

At this price it's a steal for the complete package.

16

u/Mich-666 Apr 27 '22

The problem I have with Jurrasic World Evolution is that it's more or less boring builder/sandbox with artificial mechanics and less tycoon I would hope for. And it's not even good builder with well designed UI, I enjoy Cities Skylines a lot more in that regard. I got it from Humble Choice before, got annoyed with divisions and missions, tried it for few hours and never went back. Did exactly the same with Planet Coaster (prefer old RCT any time). Research is riddled with bonus increments on infrastructure instead of new substantial gameplay enhancements. I love Elite Dangerous but what Frontier did here seems really average at best. At least in comparison with other similiar games in the genre.

So is the the mentioned DLC any different? In terms of the story or progression mainly? Did they capture the feeling of the first movie well?

5

u/forgotaboutlaye Apr 27 '22 edited Apr 27 '22

Oh man, how did I not know David Richard Attenborough passed? What a loss.

11

u/handsomeness Apr 27 '22

David ≠ Richard

8

u/forgotaboutlaye Apr 27 '22

My mistake - updated

14

u/tagyhag Apr 27 '22

I really wish Operation Genesis made its way to modern systems.

3

u/ComradeShyGuy Apr 28 '22

This has been my one hope. JWE just doesn't do it for me compared to JPOC.

16

u/GreatDoink Apr 27 '22

I have the base game already, but no DLC. Should I jump on this for the DLC or is the sequel all this + more? Should I just save for the second game or is this the better one? Thanks for the opinions!

13

u/hrabbitz Apr 27 '22

Looks like the complete edition?

13

u/shellwe Apr 27 '22 edited Apr 27 '22

I really wish the DLCs did more to add stuff to the sim part, not "look at all these cool mutations you can create!!!!" I've heard from a few people that the sim part of the game isn't all that great and it gets old fast unless you like to mix and match dinosaur genes.

I bought this game a few years ago and only put an hour into it and got distracted with other games. I should get back to it and see if I like it before I spend money on the DLCs.

3

u/Timobkg Apr 29 '22

Most people say that the DLC in the top tier, Return to Jurassic Park for example, is better than the base game.

1

u/shellwe Apr 29 '22

Cool, I may give it a shot. Sometime this weekend I want to play through the base game for a couple hours to see if it’s something I would even be interested in and would get to soon. I feel in a couple years the second one will probably be dirt cheap,

1

u/Timobkg Apr 29 '22

Yeah, and by that point it wouldn't surprise me if there was a complete edition of the first game for $10, or you could just get the Jurassic Park DLC for $5.

1

u/shellwe Apr 29 '22

Oh there is right now, on humble bundle you basically get every DLC for $10 or so, and all of it can go to charity.

It is just one of those things if I find it is not my thing then no point putting more money into it.

11

u/sylpher250 Apr 27 '22

Disappointed that none of my donation would've gone to help dinosaurs :(

6

u/SegataSanshiro Apr 28 '22

Have you considered changing your charity to a bird sanctuary?

Sure, you can't save the dinosaurs, but you can do something for their descendants.

3

u/MrMonteCristo71 Apr 28 '22

Wait, people think birds are real?

1

u/GustoB May 03 '22

how can dinosaurs be real if birds aren't real?

9

u/lionelthelionyall Apr 27 '22

Needs more turok

5

u/KuffarisMaximus Apr 27 '22

Turok brought the fog before Superman 64.

Is the 1 still relevant since the 2 came out or is the 2 better than the 1 in every way?

19

u/mpaliulis Apr 27 '22

u/humblesupport

We're aware of an issue with our Jurassic Bundle granting duplicate DLC keys. We're currently looking into a fix and will update here when everything is sorted out! Please don't hesitate to DM us if you have any questions or require support.

5

u/niemasd Apr 27 '22

I just got an email response to my support issue:

This is a mass response to address issues with Jurassic World: Evolution DLC redemption issues. If this response doesn't fully address the problems you are experiencing, please feel free to respond, and we will get back in touch as quickly as possible.

Hi there,

Thanks for your patience while we investigated the issue at hand!

We apologize for any duplicate key errors, missing products, or even potential exhausted messages you experienced. At the same time, we worked to resolve a key issue with both the Cretaceous Dinosaur Pack & Raptor Squad Skin Collection. As a result, you should be able to find a new key for both DLC on your download page!

Please reach out to me if you have any additional questions or concerns, as we will be more than happy to address them!

And I can confirm that the 2 new keys they've given me worked perfectly :-)

5

u/mpaliulis Apr 27 '22

Yes, my 2 replacement keys worked as well. Too bad I didn't realize that I had the base game free from Epic EGS.

28

u/do-You-Like-Pasta Apr 27 '22

I'm not sure if this is a mistake, but this bundle allows you to give 100% to charity. Recent bundles have had a minimum for Humble

16

u/ComicBookGrunty Apr 27 '22

Maybe the pub said they would only do it if the option for 100% charity was available?

(I know you are right and it is a mistake but I can think positive every now and then.)

0

u/SegataSanshiro Apr 28 '22

Looks like I'm giving $12 to the local shelter for domestic abuse victims.

When I can give 100% to a good charity, I don't care as much if I'm adding a game to steam that I might never play.

17

u/Zackipoo Apr 27 '22

For some reason, my Cretaceous Dino pack and Raptor Squad DLC's got replaced with extra keys for the Carnivore pack?

8

u/with-a-box-of-scraps Apr 27 '22

I think I have the same problem, can't redeem the keys for those two DLCs because Steam says I already have them. I didn't get the Deluxe Dino Pack either.

5

u/Zackipoo Apr 27 '22

Deluxe Pack worked fine for me. Just the two I mentioned. Either way, really weird. And annoying. I'm contacting support now. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to sort out.

2

u/with-a-box-of-scraps Apr 27 '22

Is Deluxe Pack a separate key or included with the main game? I bought the average tier as I already have the main game and the story DLCs.

4

u/Zackipoo Apr 27 '22

It came as a separate key for me

3

u/with-a-box-of-scraps Apr 27 '22

Alright thanks, I've also sent a message to support, hopefully the issue gets resolved soon.

1

u/with-a-box-of-scraps Apr 28 '22

Update: The problem with the two DLC has been fixed, but the Deluxe Dino Pack has now been moved up a tier... Bit annoying as that is the only DLC I'm missing for this game.

7

u/FuglyLookingGuy Apr 27 '22 edited Apr 28 '22

Yep, my

Jurassic World Evolution: Raptor Squad Skin Collection activated

Jurassic World Evolution: Carnivore Dinosaur Pack

Looks like someone screwed up the DLC codes.

Edit: Humble Support say that the issue has been fixed..

3

u/niemasd Apr 27 '22

+1 here, contacting support

2

u/fiendishcrypro Apr 27 '22

I'm seeing this issue too. How do you know or did you find out that the extra keys are for the carnivore pack?

5

u/Zackipoo Apr 27 '22

The SteamDB extension tells you what key you're trying to activate :) Highly recommend it.

2

u/fiendishcrypro Apr 27 '22

Good tip, cheers 👍

3

u/FuglyLookingGuy Apr 27 '22

I found out because I started activating the keys from the bottom, so I never activated carnivore pack before I got it from Raptor Squad Skin Collection.

21

u/TeutonicTexan Apr 27 '22

Decent value for the top tier, in my opinion. If you compare the historical low of the premium edition (which includes all DLC) $34.59 to the $12 cost of the bundle, you're looking at a roughly 65.31% discount.

If you don't care about the DLC, the $1 tier is a good value, though, as others have mentioned the based game has been bundled and given away for free before. The $1 cost compared to the nonzero historical low of $4.06 is a roughly 75.37% discount.

10

u/DarkChaplain Apr 27 '22

Heck, I've had the Return to JP DLC on my wishlist for so long, I was flabberghasted when it fell down to under 7€ recently, after being 10 bucks on sale for all this time. Getting the entire set for a tenner is a no-brainer. Glad I didn't jump the gun.

1

u/vplatt Apr 28 '22

Don't worry, it'll be in the HB Choice I'm sure. :D

1

u/kormer Apr 28 '22

Also wanted to add the coupon is 50% off. Steam had been 45% off as of about a week ago, so nice deal, but don't fret either if you're not ready to use it.

37

u/Glinth Apr 27 '22

The base game was an Epic Game Store giveaway in December 2020.

It was also part of the May 2020 Humble Monthly/Choice.

4

u/PandaBambooccaneer Apr 27 '22

Since this is presumably through steam, but can you buy DLC from Humble [Steam] and use it in a game from a different launcher [Epic Game Store]?

6

u/timmyboyoyo Apr 27 '22

No only work sometime with gog to steam

1

u/sekoku Apr 27 '22

No, and besides which this gives you the base game on Steam anyway, so what is the point?

0

u/PandaBambooccaneer Apr 28 '22

it was just informational, i was pretty sure DLC had to be bought for the same platform as the base game, Steam/Epid/GOG/etc. Not really exactly exclusively about Jurassic World Evolution

0

u/RekrabAlreadyTaken Apr 27 '22

Thanks for your service

3

u/MisterFlames Apr 27 '22

Is this good value for someone with limited time who could just play the sequel instead?

2

u/Wise_Mongoose_3930 Apr 28 '22

No. Not worth your time.

3

u/Yitram Apr 27 '22

Worth getting, even with the second game out? I played a bit of the first game, but don't have any DLCs for it.

3

u/anduin1 Apr 27 '22

Worth it for $1 for an above average park builder. The DLC is better than the base game but if you don't like the base game it's prob a bad idea to go $15+ top tier on a maybe.

7

u/timmyboyoyo Apr 27 '22

Remember you have ability to adjust sliders if you want

2

u/fiendishcrypro Apr 27 '22

Nice one, cheers.

2

u/PHawke Apr 28 '22

Don't know if I would have ever gotten it, but $12 is worth it for a tycoon-lite game to try.

2

u/pud354 Apr 28 '22

Really glad that $1 tier is back, I got a bit worried when the lowest tier on the Industrious Sims Bundle was about $7 and thought that was the new standard :O

2

u/Pokabrows Apr 29 '22

Is $12 worth it for all the dlc? It looks fun. I like zoo tycoon, planet zoo, and dinosaurs.

2

u/ARandomFakeName May 02 '22

It's definitely the cheapest it's ever been. The game with all DLC has only gone down to $35 before. The DLC is considered some of the best content too.

2

u/RendCycle May 15 '22 edited May 15 '22

It's almost 2 days since I purchased this bundle and the Keys are still unavailable. I hope Humble Bundle will have them distributed soon so those who bought the game have enough time to play part 1 + DLCs to check if they will enjoy the game. This is to help decide whether we will use the included discount coupon for Jurassic World Evolution 2 which will expire on June 1, 2022.

Payment was sent to HB in advance and they received it in advance. But the product delivery, even digital in nature and NOT even the full downloadable software (just license keys to access the product), are still super delayed. This is the first time I experienced something like this... only in Humble Bundle. :-(

1

u/RendCycle May 20 '22

Update: I've now finally received the working Keys!

1

u/hangnail323 Apr 27 '22

is this the same game that was free on epic at some point? i actually played that for a while and enjoyed it.

1

u/Timobkg Apr 29 '22

Yes, exactly the same.

1

u/leonidaster Apr 28 '22

Are there good mods for the game, also how good is the multiplayer?

0

u/ComicBookGrunty Apr 27 '22

Anyone else expected that when you clicked the bottom tier, it was going to be a single DLC with the base game in the BTA tier?

5

u/shellwe Apr 27 '22

Not really, the base game was a freebie on epic not too long ago.

1

u/Timobkg Apr 29 '22

Every similar bundle focused on one game that I can recall had the base game in the lowest tier with DLC making up the higher tiers.

-1

u/kisschicken Apr 27 '22

Is this DLC compatible with Evolution 2?

5

u/OmegaXesis Apr 27 '22

no they are different games

1

u/Mrbunnypaw Apr 29 '22

Teir 1 is really good

1

u/tech_engineer Apr 29 '22

Did HumbleBundle change their donation policy? in this bundle you can donate 100% to charity without minimum going to HB itself

1

u/MrMysteryBox Apr 30 '22

Has the key issue been sorted out?

1

u/lillje May 03 '22

Yup. It was sorted out in a matter of hours after bundle launch.

1

u/LjuboTCG May 01 '22

I played the og game on epic, and I'm planning on getting at least the base game for steam, but I wonder if the docs are worth it, do they bring anything new and interesting or are they just cosmetics?

1

u/SirDigby32 May 03 '22

PSA. Not on the pages prior to checkout if your itching to play straight away...

ATTENTION: We have run out of Steam keys for Jurassic World Evolution. We are getting more ASAP. We will have Steam keys for you as soon as they are available again!
