It sounds a bit like Humble is trying to do the old Steam flash sales. Might be a good look for them if they can keep the quality up.

62

u/FrostyTheHippo May 06 '22

Man I sure miss those. I remember back in my early teens constantly checking the deals every 8 hours, etc.

47

u/MeanGirlsMakeMeHard May 06 '22

The new sales are less fun - but also more consumer friendly IMO. You don't have the addictive need to check back - or the countdown clock making you think you better buy it in the next 4 hours or it may be gone.

9

u/MrkJulio May 06 '22

Those were the days. Refreshing the home page. The rare extra discounts that got fixed within minutes.

1

u/SLEDGEHAMMAA May 09 '22

Nothing like seeing a deal you really like, begging your mom for cash, and then running like hell to buy a Steam card from the corner store

10

u/B_Kuro May 06 '22

Only if you consider the old flash sales steam had (before the consumer benefit of easy refunds) as short sales and ignore the lower price. This is just the first portion (a short term sale) and not all that great value. According to ITAD Steam had the Deluxe Edition at 22.49€ during both summer and winter sale so without a monthly subscription you pay more than normally.

3

u/shellwe May 06 '22

It would be better if they get deals that make Humble Choice worth it, since the discount piles on.

34

u/rasmusxp May 06 '22

With the Choice 10% extra discount (that's as high as it goes with this deal), it is 70% off and €11.87 / €20.78, respectively.

3

u/Kevin183 May 06 '22

Doesn't choice go up to 20% off?

11

u/d0m1n4t0r May 06 '22

Yes, but it's on a game by game basis as well.

1

u/Neeralazra May 06 '22

Thus making staying on choice and not skipping useless lol(At least for this game)

2

u/d0m1n4t0r May 07 '22

Yep. To be fair, most of the games do have 20% off, but yeah sometimes it varies and it can be 10% or 15%, don't remember seeing 5% at least..

2

u/mrspor May 07 '22

The 20% is off the full price.

If the game is on sale for 50% off, then only 1`0% of the 20% choice discount still applies, if that makes sense.

If a game was on sale for 75% off, then the choice discount would only be 5% (25% of 20%).

If a game was on sale for 90% off then the choice discount would only be 2% (10% of 20%)

The formula for calculating choice discount on games on sale is basically (100%-<discount of game>)*20%.

2

u/d0m1n4t0r May 07 '22

But it's not always 20%, it's sometimes 10% for some games.

1

u/GirthquakerStud May 07 '22

What's choice? A subscription discount?

1

u/rasmusxp May 07 '22

Yes, you can find more information here: https://www.humblebundle.com/membership

56

u/riskybiz85 May 06 '22

I really need to stay away from this sub. I'm drowning in a backlog. Damn it.

9

u/vegan_anakin May 06 '22 edited May 07 '22

Ikr. Same thing here. It makes no sense. Why am I buying new games when i am have so many good games already? Too dumb

1

u/Red_Dox May 07 '22

Summersales starting everywhere soon™ ;)

4

u/riskybiz85 May 07 '22

My wife is gonna leave me

88

u/Lexbalker May 06 '22

Worth noting is that this is a Bethesda key and the Bethesda Launcher will be closing down soon. If you buy this, you will probably have to migrate it over to Steam.

85

u/CinnabarSin May 06 '22

They've said that the Bethesda game keys will just redeem on Steam going forward. You can also redeem there first and then transfer over if you haven't done your account yet, that's supposed to be a one time thing though.

125

u/Quackle May 06 '22

Yup, I just tried it. I put the bethesda key that Humble gave me and it redeemed on Steam just fine, didn't need a Bethesda account

44

u/CinnabarSin May 06 '22

You beat me to it so I'll confirm your confirmation.

11

u/Godlydesu May 06 '22

thank you for this information.

9

u/trwbox May 06 '22

I can also confirm it just redeems on steam fine

4

u/GBLurkin41 May 07 '22

Also confirming, key redeems on Steam no problem. Thanks for the heads up.

3

u/Viktorv22 May 07 '22

Can confirm, just activated Deluxe Edition from humble directly on steam, no probs

1

u/PricklyAvocado May 08 '22

I found this out after having to figure out my Bethesda account info, reseting my password, downloading the client and then trying to redeem on it before realizing none of that was necessary haha

4

u/jandkas May 06 '22

I can vouch that the migration process is super easy, so you're essentially getting a steam key

4

u/amtap May 06 '22

I've already transferred my Bethesda library to Steam, it's pretty painless. The only thing I don't know is if you can transfer your library more than once.

1

u/Dragon_Small_Z May 07 '22

The key I bought just redeemed in steam.

11

u/CinnabarSin May 06 '22

Any thoughts on if the Deluxe is worth the extra? Really just want to play through the campaign and don't see myself playing the other modes.

16

u/lilbelleandsebastian May 06 '22

you will be perfectly satisfied with base game, but if you've played dark souls or bloodborne then i would compare the quality of the DLC here to those.

base game is still a fantastic experience, but DLC goes above and beyond to really capture the devs' vision

15

u/jivebeaver May 06 '22

im gonna steal what i heard someone said, but DOOM Eternal deluxe with both DLCs is one of the best most complete FPS campaigns. and they are complete "stories" even if you find them cheesy they conclude the base game quite nicely

now like with all DLCs its hard to know if youll enjoy them or what to keep playing beforehand, but if you like the base game youll likely want to keep playing. this Deluxe pack is actually a great discount compared to buying Year One pass or either parts separately, because they're rarely discounted to the degree the whole Deluxe pack is.

this is kind of a dirty tactic i see nowadays to pressure buyers into paying more than they want upfront, but its not a bad thing IF the whole package is good, which this one is

18

u/Yourself013 May 06 '22

Yes, absolutely. The base game has 13 missions, the DLC adds an additional 6 that are very well designed with new enemy types and abilities. Definitely worth the money.

Worth noting that the difficulty is a step up from the base game, because it accounts for using a pretty much maxed character with all weapons and upgrades, but it's manageable.

If you really fancy a tough challenge after the campaign, there are a few Master Levels, essentially a souped up experience with much harder enemies, new spawns and challenges that require you to pretty much show a mastery of the game mechanics. Some people hate it, but it's a really cool optional challenge that awards you with extra cosmetics.

7

u/Cheezewiz239 May 06 '22

The deluxe edition gives you more story DLC. The main story is about 20 hours so I'm not sure if that's long enough for you.

6

u/Geistbar May 06 '22

I found the DLC campaigns to be very fun and great to go into right after the base campaign. The final final fight was a bit of a letdown imo but overall the DLC missions were a ton of fun.

I’d say it’s worth it.

4

u/MartyMcFlergenheimer May 06 '22

Deluxe has 2 campaign dlcs with new environments, enemies, and bosses. Definitely worth it

9

u/Die4Ever May 06 '22 edited May 06 '22

If you want a harder and faster Doom 2016 then this is for you. If you enjoyed the simplicity of 2016 then maybe not. This is a tryhard, sweaty, high APM game. It's like Quake 3 or some eSport in single player form. It demands that you use all your tools, resources, and abilities to their maximum. Make sure you know how to quick swap weapons to maximize your DPS, and learn to use the meathook for fast movement.

4

u/Herlock May 07 '22

AI & Games has made an excellent video on the design philosophy of doom eternal :

https://youtu.be/M1F8_bmOH5w

11

u/TheAngryMilliner2 May 06 '22

I wish I could get into Doom Eternal, I tried twice and both times it just felt like too much, and I say that as someone who loved the first new Doom game to pieces.

9

u/huxtiblejones May 07 '22

It's a weird game compared to its predecessor. It feels like it's much more rock-paper-scissors in terms of which weapons you have to switch to for which enemies so your strategies are kind of formulaic despite the game being insanely frantic. It sacrifices a lot of the gritty mood of 2016 for colorful, arcadey, over the top stuff both in terms of story and visuals. It's fun in its own right, it's just a distinctly different type of game.

7

u/boogs_23 May 06 '22

Agreed. The game keeps you on the edge of death at all times with added struggle of no ammo. The first DOOM reboot was adrenaline fueled fun. Eternal is frustrating, anxiety inducing chaos.

2

u/Coom-guy May 07 '22

Doom eternal is simply a difficult game which gets easy and satisfying once you figure out the mechanics. People are just not used to shooters requiring you to think this much about resource management. I believe doom eternal changed how people who play classic fps' perceive fast paced action video games

2

u/vegan_anakin May 06 '22

Even on the easy difficulty modes?

13

u/TheAngryMilliner2 May 06 '22

Yeah. I didn't find the game too difficult, I just felt like my brain was bombarded by sensory overload non stop.

Doom Eternal made me feel like an old biddy.

5

u/Herlock May 07 '22

It's clearly by design, and yes it's not for everybody (clearly). They refined how they wanted people to play doom in doom eternal, and left no room for player agenda in that regard.

Either you fully embrace that philosophy, or the game will be super punishing and frustrating.

20

u/Jandolino May 06 '22

Terrific game - but damn it is exhausting to play for me.

7

u/seceralnof May 06 '22

Yup, could only do an hour at a time for Doom 2016.

8

u/Herlock May 07 '22

Eternal is way harder IMO. I could go through 2016 fairly easily, but got my ass handed over in eternal.

They clearly went full berserk on their vision of how doom was meant to be played. See "push forward combat" for details ;)

6

u/lukeman3000 May 06 '22

I miss D3 and the more survival-horror style of that game

2

u/Xhuzestaan May 06 '22

Seizures?

25

u/vegan_anakin May 06 '22

I think it's because of the constant second to second aggressive gameplay.

21

u/TAAyylmao May 06 '22

Just a heads up that this game forces TAA (or TSSAA specifically) and requires either a console command or ini edit to turn off. I personally find TAA makes games too blurry, just wanted to throw this out there for anyone who might care.

17

u/Yourself013 May 06 '22

As someone who utterly hates TAA with a passion, the Doom Eternal implementation didn't bother me much. Dunno why. I despise it in many games like Halo Infinite or RDR2 because it's just so intrusive, but this game never felt that way.

4

u/vegan_anakin May 06 '22

Thanks for the info.

7

u/bizarrobike May 07 '22

Doom Eternal is a demanding game. There are numerous cooldowns to track, enemy/weapon matchups to think about, ammo conservation, passive buffs to capitalize on, crazy amounts of mobility, threat prioritization. It might be too much for some people.

But I think it's one of the best shooters ever made.

8

u/doggexbay May 07 '22

I'm 41 and played the hell out of DOOM 1 & 2 at launch, and other than a lot of hours in BL2 I haven't really played many shooters since. So I'm an old slow guy.

DOOM 2016 was a challenge for me on normal, but I liked it enough to buy Eternal. Eternal is physically exhausting for me to play, and I haven't been able to beat it on normal, but I absolutely adore it. If Id makes a third installment in this leg of the franchise, I'm there.

4

u/randalicioso May 07 '22

Bring it on! I'm you but two years younger. Ended up going ultra violence and succeeding!

Worth saying I started on normal, I was exhausted, started it on easy and mid-game went back to normal and finished it. Then I started it again on ultraviolence.

No doubt, best Doom ever. It is just... Eternal

2

u/axbeard May 07 '22

It might be too much for some people.

It was certainly too much tedium for me

3

u/Spooky_SZN May 06 '22

This is a fat discount on the best fps I've ever played. Easily worth much more than this to me. If you haven't played it I cannot recommend it enough

3

u/3-DMan May 07 '22

That's it, I'm finally rippin and tearin at that price!

13

u/SensaiOpti May 06 '22

Man, this game still has Denuvo on it despite them day 1 leaking the executable without Denuvo on it.

I want to buy your game, id. Please let me do so without punishing me.

3

u/Coom-guy May 07 '22

I thought they removed denuvo. It has denuvo anti cheat but no denuvo DRM iirc

4

u/Herlock May 07 '22

I think that's the opposite : they removed the anti cheat, but still run anti tamper

3

u/Verminterested May 07 '22

This is the correct way around - basically the "copy protection" stayed.

3

u/Verminterested May 07 '22

Literally came here to post this. I really love DOOM and have been playing it for now almost 30 years, but I have absolutely zero inclination to cross-finance these DRM extortionists that not only are bad for the user, but also force crappy contracts onto publishers and devs, along with a whole community management and support nightmare on top.

3

u/dethb0y May 07 '22

one of the best shooters in living memory, and my personal favorite of the past several years.

10

u/cooldrew May 06 '22

It gives you both campaign expansions, The Ancient Gods Part 1 and Part 2, along with an exclusive Slayer skin and a toggleable classic gun sounds option
It does not give you any of the cosmetic pack microtransactions

4

u/SpeakerForTheDeadJD May 06 '22

Duke Nukem was 91% off so I grabbed that and Bulletstorm for less than $7.

2

u/bearkin1 May 06 '22

The cheapest way to play the deluxe version of this game, if you only want to play it once, would be to buy Game Pass for $1 and then buy the DLC on the Microsoft store on sale. All in all I believe I paid $13 for all the content. However, note that when your Game Pass subscription ends, you won't have access to it anymore.

-2

u/KomputerIdiat May 06 '22

If it was only on GOG:(

1

u/CrabHomotopy May 07 '22

Any way to only buy the DLCs if I already have the base game?

1

u/TommieSjukskriven May 07 '22

Buy the season pass

2

u/CrabHomotopy May 07 '22

I don't see the season pass on sale on humble. Part one is on sale for half price, but part two isn't. What a shame...

1

u/TommieSjukskriven May 07 '22

You can buy it elsewhere though

1

u/AL_CaPWN422 May 08 '22

I assume the Deluxe Edition a single key? I'm only interested in the DLC but if it was 2 keys I could probably find a friend to gift the extra base game key to.

-10

u/Alien_Cha1r May 06 '22

It's a good deal, but bare in mind you cannot play until a week from now because only then willl your games migrate to steam

11

u/keeper2000 May 06 '22

Actually, based on other comments here, you can now redeem Bethesda game key directly on steam apparently.

7

u/CrankyD May 06 '22

Bethesda already opened migrations to Steam last week, I've already transferred mine. Also any current Bethesda purchases should redeem directly on Steam.
