Having Issues with your driver? Read here!

Before you start - Make sure you Submit Feedback for your Nvidia Driver Issue

There is only one real way for any of these problems to get solved, and that’s if the Driver Team at Nvidia knows what those problems are. So in order for them to know what’s going on it would be good for any users who are having problems with the drivers to Submit Feedback to Nvidia. A guide to the information that is needed to submit feedback can be found here.

Additionally, if you see someone having the same issue you are having in this thread, reply and mention you are having the same issue. The more people that are affected by a particular bug, the higher the priority that bug will receive from NVIDIA!!

Common Troubleshooting Steps

  • If you are having issue installing the driver for GTX 1080/1070/1060 on Windows 10, make sure you are on the latest build for May 2019 Update (Version 1903). If you are on the older version/build (e.g. Version 1507/Build 10240), you need to update your windows. Press Windows Key + R and type winver to check your build version.
  • Please visit the following link for DDU guide which contains full detailed information on how to do Fresh Driver Install.
  • If your driver still crashes after DDU reinstall, try going to Go to Nvidia Control Panel -> Managed 3D Settings -> Power Management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance

If it still crashes, we have a few other troubleshooting steps but this is fairly involved and you should not do it if you do not feel comfortable. Proceed below at your own risk:

  • A lot of driver crashing is caused by Windows TDR issue. There is a huge post on GeForce forum about this here. This post dated back to 2009 (Thanks Microsoft) and it can affect both Nvidia and AMD cards.
  • Unfortunately this issue can be caused by many different things so it’s difficult to pin down. However, editing the windows registry might solve the problem.
  • Additionally, there is also a tool made by Wagnard (maker of DDU) that can be used to change this TDR value. Download here. Note that I have not personally tested this tool.

If you are still having issue at this point, visit GeForce Forum for support or contact your manufacturer for RMA.

Common Questions

  • Is it safe to upgrade to <insert driver version here>? Fact of the matter is that the result will differ person by person due to different configurations. The only way to know is to try it yourself. My rule of thumb is to wait a few days. If there’s no confirmed widespread issue, I would try the new driver.

Bear in mind that people who have no issues tend to not post on Reddit or forums. Unless there is significant coverage about specific driver issue, chances are they are fine. Try it yourself and you can always DDU and reinstall old driver if needed.

  • My color is washed out after upgrading/installing driver. Help! Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel -> Change Resolution -> Scroll all the way down -> Output Dynamic Range = FULL.
  • My game is stuttering when processing physics calculation Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel and to the Surround and PhysX settings and ensure the PhysX processor is set to your GPU
  • What does the new Power Management option “Optimal Power” means? How does this differ from Adaptive? The new power management mode is related to what was said in the Geforce GTX 1080 keynote video. To further reduce power consumption while the computer is idle and nothing is changing on the screen, the driver will not make the GPU render a new frame; the driver will get the one (already rendered) frame from the framebuffer and output directly to monitor.

Remember, driver codes are extremely complex and there are billions of different possible configurations. The software will not be perfect and there will be issues for some people. For a more comprehensive list of open issues, please take a look at the Release Notes. Again, I encourage folks who installed the driver to post their experience here... good or bad.

Discussion Patch to properly disable DLSS sharpening in God of War

I noticed the forced sharpening in God of War when using DLSS - which was especially annoying with the flickering of foliage when moving slowly. I didn't want any watermarks or to downgrade DLSS.
So I went through the game's exe and created a patch that completely disables the sharpening in DLSS.

Unfortunately, due to legal reasons I don't want to upload the modified .exe file here, so you have to apply the patch yourself:

  1. If you're not familiar with the process below, you should probably make a backup of the GoW.exe first
  2. Open the GoW.exe in a hex editor (e.g. HxD)
  3. Search for 41 B8 6B 00 00 00 48 8D 15 as hex (in HxD: press Ctrl+F and click on the "Hex-values" tab)
  4. Replace it with 41 B8 4B 00 00 00 48 8D 15 (in HxD: simply press Ctrl+V)
  5. Save the changes

That's it!
Tested with day one patch and the patch that was just released (Jan 19). This fix probably also works with any future game versions but you'd need to re-apply it obviously.

I've also added this fix to the PCGamingWiki.

Question Is anyone facing stuttering with new 511.23 driver?

I feel like a lot of my games have FPS dips now when I go to a new area in games. This is likely from texture streaming, but I swear I never had this issue before.

Have you guys faced this issue with this driver?

Discussion 4000 Series

So I was wondering if there is any information about the release of the new 4000 series, like when will it release. I'm looking to buy a new graphic card and wanted to wait for the 4000 series to come out if it's scheduled for this year, especially if they offer a greater performance than the 3000 series.

Question Unable to change display mode? [Advanced Optimus]

I have a 2021 Razer Blade 15 with Advanced Optimus ('Automatic Select' graphics setting in Nvidia Control Panel). It was switching perfectly, but recently fails to switch and thus fails to launch a game. See screenshot below for error.

Updated NVIDIA drivers. Oddly enough, one game I have (7 Days to Die) just launches correctly. Forcing the other games to use NVIDIA graphics in the Nvidia Control Panel doesn't have any effect...

Opinion Is it worth to buy 3070 in Europe at this time?

Hey so I work in the field of 3D/VFX and I´´'ve been hunting for a GPU since 30 series where released...

Here in EU they are either not in stock everywhere or 400% over MSRP but i just saw a FTW3 3070 for 1000€, I know it over the MSRP and at this point I don't mind to overpay as long as it's not a 400% .

EVGAs 3070 goes for 720€ on their site(out of stock offcourse), how bad/good would be if I where to buy it, does Nvidias increase in stock have a t least a little bit of truth? Should i keep waiting... i don't mind the wait but its been a year already....

I just need someone to tell me go No or Yes go get it!

Discussion You can disable DLSS sharpening in God of War using DLSS sdk or 2.1.55 dll.

I noticed that many people like myself are opting to play God of War without dlss because of the excessive sharpening in the game with dlss. Unless this is patched out, you can disable that sharpening and customise it to the level you want using any of the 2 methods below

Method 1- Download the dlss 2.1.55 dlss dll from metro exodus enhanced edition and replace it in the game folder and it will disable that sharpening. I did not use this method as you lose all the ghosting and image quality improvements offered by 2.3.

Method 2-Use the DLSS SDK to disable sharpening.

First download the DLSS sdk from below link. You can create a free developer account.

Once downloaded, extract its contents to a folder. Inside the extracted zip is a dll file found at /lib/Windows_x86_64/dev/nvngx_dlss.dll, copy it and overwrite the nvngx_dlss.dll file in the game folder.

That’s it. Now just load into your save file and to check if it’s working, there should be a watermark at the bottom right corner of your screen stating “To obtain DLLs, please contact NVIDIA”. Now press Ctrl+Alt+F7 hotkey to disable the inbuilt sharpening. Press it again to reenable.

You should be able to tell the difference easily. You can then use GeForce experience to customise the sharpening to your liking. I use 10%.

You would need to use the hotkey every time you load up the game as it doesn’t save the setting but it’s a small compromise.

The only disadvantage is that persistent watermark at the bottom right corner but is barely noticeable to me at 4K.

Question Would it be possible to run a 1660 on 320W Power Supply?

So currently I have a GTX 1650 4 GB on a 320 W Power supply which came with my original desktop, however I’m looking at upgrading to a 6 GB 1660 to support things like VR.

The Power Supply is proprietary by HP and I’m wondering if anyone knows whether or not it is possible to run a 1660 on the 320 W, or if it’s possible for me to add an external power supply to the computer?

Discussion Undervolting and overclocking a 3070Ti FTW3 Ultra

I read a bunch of posts here but still had a few questions if someone can help to clarify please?

  1. How do I determine what is the "core clock" I should run my card at? I.e. the initial curve that I pull down, how do I tell?
  2. How do I determine the optimal "voltage point" to drag up, and how far up should I go? I.e. I see some people doing it at .925, .95, .975. And in terms of pulling the curve up, I'm not sure how far to go.
  3. Memory boost - is that necessary and does it improve performance?

I just want to reduce temps and maintain/improve performance, I don't care about the little performance bumps.

Thank you!
