[Mod Post] Tag, Title, Demographic and "Everyone" (and Reposts)

This is just a repost of our previously stickied announcement regarding our rules regarding post titles, with slight edits for accuracy and clarity. (There are no rule changes being announced in this post.)

All posts must have a proper [Tag] at the beginning of the title.

The tags are [Casual], [Academic], [Marketing], and [Results]. You may not create your own tag. If your survey fits into more than one, please pick the one tag you feel is most appropriate and use that.

The [Academic] tag is for studies done for academic purposes, including high school classes, college classes, and academic research on behalf of a school). The [Marketing] tag is for market research surveys and other studies done for commercial research or on behalf of a company. And finally, the [Casual] tag is for surveys done out of idle curiosity or surveys that don't fit in one of these categories.

The [Results] tag is only for posts in which you are sharing the results/responses of a survey that was previously posted to /r/SampleSize. It should never be used for posts in which you are sharing a survey in the hopes of gathering responses.

All posts need to have a title that describes the topic of their survey.

This is the part that describes your survey. "I need 10 responses" is not a valid title; please give us an idea of what to expect. If your survey is about opinions on ice cream flavors, something like "Ice Cream Flavors" is an appropriate title.

All survey posts must have an accurate demographic in parentheses at the end of the post title.

The demographic that you include in the post title is the group of people that you would like to have fill out your survey. The demographic must be accurate, which means that if the demographic is listed as "everyone" but the survey has any questions that restrict the possible demographics that can respond to it, then that survey will be removed. See the following section for more details.

Results posts do not require a demographic, but you can include one if you want.

Posts with the demographic labeled "All" or "Everyone" must be inclusive.

If you label something as available for "All" then please make sure that every single person that could come across the survey can take it. The easiest way to ensure people can answer your "All" surveys is to not ask demographic questions, but that's certainly not foolproof.

While it is preferable if your survey is inclusive, we understand that not every survey may be. If there are any demographic restrictions, they need to be appropriately labelled. Some possible restrictions that your survey may have:

  • Age (e.g. surveys restricted to those 18 or older, or which have an incomplete list of age categories); per the Reddit user agreement, all users must be 13 or older
  • Nationality (e.g. questions that assume the respondent is from the United States)
  • Race or ethnicity
  • Having an account on a certain site (this is mainly for surveys created with Google Forms; if you check the "Limit to 1 response" checkbox, it requires sign-in to take the survey and prevents those without Google accounts from responding)
  • Sex or gender (e.g. questions with only "male" and "female" answer options)

Reddit is used by people of all ages from around the globe. Regarding sex and gender in particular, keep in mind that intersex people exist, and not everybody identifies as either male or female. Whenever asking questions for which you may not be able to provide a comprehensive list of answer options, we recommend including an "other" or open-ended answer option.

We understand that not every survey is targeted at everyone, and sometimes you may have made an oversight during the creation of the survey and are unable to change it later - and that is fine. We simply ask that you make sure to label your survey appropriately, so that people don't waste their time filling out a survey that isn't appropriate for them.

Reposts must be properly tagged, and made only after 24 hours have passed since the previous post.

If your initial survey post does not gather as many responses as you need, you are welcome to repost the survey as long as you follow our reposting guidelines.

All reposts must include the [Repost] tag at the start of the title, in addition to the primary tag. You are only allowed to repost a survey once your previous post has fallen off the front page, and 24 hours have passed since that post.

If you have trouble reposting your survey due to reddit identifying it as a duplicate post, do not delete your previous post. Instead, submit the repost as a new text post, and include the survey link in the body of your post.

The above text explains the required parts of a post title. If you want to include additional information such as survey length or potential rewards (such as an entry into a raffle for a gift card or something) as well, that is fine - but try to avoid overloading the title with unnecessary/irrelevant information. You can always make a text post and include that information in the body of the post if you feel that the survey requires more introduction or explanation beforehand.

Thank you for your time, and have a great day. If you have any questions about our rules, feel free to send a modmail to /r/SampleSize.

Meta Discussion Would users of r/SampleSize benefit from a crash course in statistics class? (Prospective and current users of r/SampleSize)

Hi all,

So a common issue we've seen with posts on this sub are issues with demographics. While we've been hashing these out in private, we've recently gotten access to Talk, which we've seen other subs use for social events, AMAs, and all sorts of things. We thought that hosting a Talk where we offer a crash course in statistics as it relates to surveys and surveying.

There's been a number of posts that use an (Everyone) tag that isn't for everyone. To save time, your demographic at the end of your title is required so Redditors can check it out to see if it's a fit for them before moving on. Not everything's going to be for everyone, and as a non-binary person living in a specific place, I can't necessarily do surveys that are tagged for everyone that don't include a nonbinary/other gender option (happens all too commonly), or talk about my experiences out at a protest in two particular geographic areas- neither of which I live in! r/SampleSize is internationally accessible, and folks outside the gender binary exist. And sometimes, people forget about that.

So, here's a survey link to Strawpoll. There are 3 answers, "yes," "no," and "I'd like to, but I may not be able to attend." https://strawpoll.com/polls/PbZqoGw7KnN

Input on using Talk for this is more than welcome, and we can record the lesson and abridge it, if we need to.

Academic (Repost) [Repost] Graduate Student Research Survey (English, 18+)

I am a Computer Science graduate student who is working on a computational creativity project for generating limericks. What's a limerick? A limerick is a five line poem containing three long lines and two short lines. The lines should rhyme in an aabba pattern where the "a" lines are 7-10 syllables and the "b" lines are 5-7 syllables. You will be asked to rate the syntactic coherence (i.e., the arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences) of 4 limericks in the first section. In the second section you will be presented with two limericks and asked to rank how well the limericks fit a specific theme. This survey should take between 1-3 minutes. Thanks!

Casual [Casual] Order-taking app UX research (everyone)

Hello, I would really appreciate if you would take a few minutes to answer a few questions regarding order-taking and communication as a waiter. The form is very short and would help me a lot in designing the app. The app is basically an order-taking app that makes the life of waiters a lot easier, by easily placing orders on the god while automatically sending the info to the kitchen and the POS system, this saves time and will make the experience much better.

Academic [Academic] Qualitative Survey for Statistics College Class (Los Angeles Residents)

repost because I stupidly forgot the link: https://qfreeaccountssjc1.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_54t8jMxbauNY6aO

Hey Angelinos. I'm doing a project for my statistics class and am asking all of you reading this to participate or at the very least send this to someone who would. I would give more detail in the title but don't want to skew results. Nothing major or too intense though, its about the relationship between social media and mental health. The project outline is due this weekend and to be able to finish that and the paper that comes afterward I need data collected already. I haven't been able to get it out before because of life getting in the way but the times I do nobody bothered to answer. I need 70 people minimum so please take this. Completely anonymous and confidential and will only be shared with my professor. Thank you in advance!

not sure how many of those reading this will be from Los Angeles but if you live anywhere in California or even nearby within the US then its open to you as well. At this point I really just need honest answers from anyone.

Academic [Academic] Volkswagen Brand Image (everybody)

Hello guys,

As part of my college thesis, I am conducting an investigation towards the company Volkswagen. I am studying the consequences of the 2015 scandal on the brand and the strategies that Volkswagen used to restore its image.

As a reminder: in September 2015, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found that in over 590,000 diesel motor vehicles, Volkswagen had violated the Clean Air Act as the vehicles were equipped with "defeat devices" in the form of a computer software, which was designed to cheat on federal emissions tests.

Constructed in three parts, this quiz will take no more than 5 minutes of your time. You are free to withdraw at any time without prejudice or cause but my work will be more relevant if you complete the entire questionnaire.

All responses are anonymous and will be processed only for the purpose of this study. No data will be shared with third parties.

Thank you very much for your participation!
