Looking for games similar to Crossout, Robocraft and Drone.

Upvotes

Does anyone know of this type of game being released anytime soon? I'm looking for so called "build and battle" games but these seem to be very uncommon. I enjoy the grinding aspect of these games and especially the creation part. Like many members of the gaming community I enjoy using said creations against other players in a fair skill based environment. Initially I enjoyed Crossout very much ,however as the game progressed it became extremely pay to win. Generally I tend to avoid games which are pay to win (cosmetics are fine but being able to purchase items/parts /currency which gives an unfair advantage is a massive turnoff.)

is there a modern Top Gear Rally?

Upvotes

I played Top Gear Rally on the N64 I don't even know how many hundreds of hours as a teenager. I loved that game, and have tried to replace it with every console upgrade I've done and have never really found what I'm looking for. I figured there's gotta be a modern game out there that's got a Top Gear Rally feel to it, I just don't know how to find it.

What I liked about Top Gear Rally:

  • It is on the "realistic" side of "arcade" racing games. No endless nitro, no powerups, etc.
  • There is a limited amount of customization: a few cars with various centers of gravity and suspension, a few tire/handling options, that's it. I do not want the mind-boggling options of a simulator.
  • I am not interesting in simulating the experience of a professional driver. I just want to go fast, and beat other people also going fast.
  • I want tracks. With laps. I do not enjoy spending most of the race trying to interpret a bunch of visual data to deduce the direction I need to go. I don't want street racing, I don't want open-world rally car racing. Cart racers scratch some of this itch for me, but they're all way too easy.
  • I really enjoyed how each track had its own traction-- street, desert, mountain, jungle, they all needed different driving approaches. Throw in the weather conditions and it could be really interesting.
  • Simplicity. I liked how it was straightforward and stripped down by today's standards. More than four tracks and a handful of cars would be great, obviously, but some modern games are overwhelming.

Games I've tried:

  • Crew 2. The rally mode was kinda close to the "feel" I'm wanting, although no track obviously. But the game had so many cutscenes and loading screens it was frustrating. Plus there was so much stuff crammed into the menu screens I couldn't make heads nor tails of it.
  • Need for Speed. I've tried a bunch of different titles in this series, they're all way too gimmicky and feel more cart racer to me.
  • Forza 4, Forza 5, Forza Horizen 4, etc. Whichever Forza was out in 2005 was my first attempt at replacing Top Gear Rally and that was when I knew I hated racing sims. I've still tried them whenever I get disappointed with an arcade.
  • Viper Racing was a lot of fun, it probably comes the closest to Top Gear Rally than anything else.
  • Cruis'n series. No. Just [sigh] no.

Anyway, I'm open to hear of any realistic-ish arcade/rally racing game you've got. Bonus points if it has actual gameplay videos somewhere.

Need some help with PCVR info! :) [TLDR included]

Upvotes

Hey guys, I'm saving to get a VR set to play with, The Oculus Quest 2. I would have gotten a VIVE set, but they are waaaaay out of my budget. Since I would like to also connect to my PC with my VR set, and, specifically, use SteamVR, I've heard I'd have to use an oculus link, but those are $129 AUD - which is once again, out of my price range. BUT... I heard from my little brother that I dont need an official oculus link, I can just use a USB-A to USB-C cable and the "virtual desktop" application to do so. But I imagine with such a cheaper product, there is a drawback of sorts. Is that so? And what might it be? Thanks :)

TLDR: Does using a USB-A to USB-C cable work as well as an oculus link when connecting to PC?

I absolutely abhor, despise, mega loathe walking simulators. I know there are going to be a bunch of people who disagree but I have yet to play walking simulator that I enjoyed. They are boring audio books imo.

This is coming from someone who loves audio books, reading, & as well as video games. I'm old school gamer all the way back to atari 2600. I guess I'm more of a single player story driven gamer but there HAS to be more for me to do than looking for clues to hear a new audio portion of the story. More than just puzzles as well. For me there has to be a mixture of story telling, combat, & puzzles. Granted I know coming from old games like 2600 there wasn't much of a story. But as games evolved my tastes have as well.

Going back and trying to play older games is almost impossible for me. I always look fondly on those games but trying to play them now I don't understand how I put up with the terrible controls and boring gameplay on a lot of them. I think bc we didn't know any better at the time.

That being said I feel walking sims are my least favorite style of games. I don't care how pretty they can be. Even if the story is phenomenal, which I've yet to find one, I'd rather read the book or listen to an audio book instead.

I don't know why so many devs make them. What is the appeal? Is it easy to develop? If so to me that's just lazy game development. I'm assuming the story portion is probably the hardest part bc writing a good story is difficult. So many of games have awful stories with bland characters.

All in all I will never buy or play another walking sim as long as I live. I've been burned every time. They always get high reviews Gone Home (worst game I've ever played) what remains of edith finch exactly the same style different story.

Observer wasn't horrible but again it wasn't great either not for the money imo. I'm strictly speaking of the style like Gone Home. Nearly got suckered again with medium. Until I found out thankfully it was classified as a walking sim.

Anyways just a rant that is all. I'm curious what the appeal is to other people?

downloading problems

Upvotes

Hi, so r/VALORANT doesn't let a user post until said post is approved so I'll put it here,

I'm having trouble updating Valorant, the download directory is set to my D drive but for some reason, my C drive is the one being downloaded in, despite the game's file locations being in D. I'm not sure how to get help since I've tried googling it but nothing has popped up for me relating to this.

Thank you.

Friend's wife started playing Half Life: Alyx. You can only carry two grenades at a time in the game, but she figured a way around that. She now carries grenades around with her in a box throughout levels.

Multiplatform gamers, how do you choose which backlog to play?

Upvotes

My PC/steam backlog, PlayStation backlog and Nintendo switch backlog seems impossible to polish off. How do you determine which game to play next or go back to? Do you try multiple at the same time? I have no idea where to start.

MORTAL KOMBAT ARCADE EDITION (SEGA GENESIS) - PLAY AS NOOB SAIBOT!

Upvotes

Highlight SUB-ZERO! Now hold ⬅️+A+B+C and press START! Keep ⬅️+A+B+C+START held down until any match begins! (Note: You will need to hold down ⬅️+A+B+C+START every time before another match begins! Sadly, This code will work for PLAYER 1 only, as I've tried this code for Player 2, using either ⬅️+A+B+C+START or ➡️+A+B+C+START! Guess what happened afterwords, NOTHING still!)

For NOOB SAIBOT to switch between his Move-Sets, when the Announcer says "ROUND", (Or even during a match!) you can switch between Scorpion's moves and Sub-Zero's moves! Just press MODE or ⬆️+B and you will now see that NOOB SAIBOT has switched his fighting stance! (Note: This also works for REPTILE as well!)

Guardians of the Galaxy... how is that not talked about more!

Upvotes

Just finished the game and the story was brilliant, I laughed, I cried, I smirked, I flarking nerded out over the comic book references. Such well written characters, emotional depth, the camaderie & banter, the snippets of back story that makes exploration worth it.

The huddle feature that has your team all out blasting to tunes like 'we built this city'

Bonus points for referencing Die Hard and Crocdile Dundee
