My three friends and I have been at a loss of games for 2022. Survival and horror games are our jam. We all have access to virtual reality so that's in the picture as well. So tell us some recommendations and we'll start playing.
I absolutely abhor, despise, mega loathe walking simulators. I know there are going to be a bunch of people who disagree but I have yet to play walking simulator that I enjoyed. They are boring audio books imo.
This is coming from someone who loves audio books, reading, & as well as video games. I'm old school gamer all the way back to atari 2600. I guess I'm more of a single player story driven gamer but there HAS to be more for me to do than looking for clues to hear a new audio portion of the story. More than just puzzles as well. For me there has to be a mixture of story telling, combat, & puzzles. Granted I know coming from old games like 2600 there wasn't much of a story. But as games evolved my tastes have as well.
Going back and trying to play older games is almost impossible for me. I always look fondly on those games but trying to play them now I don't understand how I put up with the terrible controls and boring gameplay on a lot of them. I think bc we didn't know any better at the time.
That being said I feel walking sims are my least favorite style of games. I don't care how pretty they can be. Even if the story is phenomenal, which I've yet to find one, I'd rather read the book or listen to an audio book instead.
I don't know why so many devs make them. What is the appeal? Is it easy to develop? If so to me that's just lazy game development. I'm assuming the story portion is probably the hardest part bc writing a good story is difficult. So many of games have awful stories with bland characters.
All in all I will never buy or play another walking sim as long as I live. I've been burned every time. They always get high reviews Gone Home (worst game I've ever played) what remains of edith finch exactly the same style different story.
Observer wasn't horrible but again it wasn't great either not for the money imo. I'm strictly speaking of the style like Gone Home. Nearly got suckered again with medium. Until I found out thankfully it was classified as a walking sim.
Anyways just a rant that is all. I'm curious what the appeal is to other people?
Friend's wife started playing Half Life: Alyx. You can only carry two grenades at a time in the game, but she figured a way around that. She now carries grenades around with her in a box throughout levels.
Can we take a Minute to appreciate this masterpiece of a game? and its PERFECT Soundtrack? I really wish they would go ahead and Remaster this Game. I hated Paradise originally, and still do. Burnout 3 was the perfect Burnout Game. All out Destruction set to a perfect mid 2000s rock soundtrack.
