the latest reasoning I was given is that they are not into "real" animals like a pet dog or a cow, they are into anthropomorphic people / animal hybrids, which are purely fictional. so IMO, it's either a sexual preference same as any other kink or preference, or its a dismorphic issue, where they want to "be" a mythic creature.

A lot of people like the sexualised side, but for others its about the art and design. In reality it cant be solidly slotted into kink, dismorphia, or any similar vein because there are a lot of reasons people might like anthro stuff

It’s not really always a sexual preference, I for example simply enjoy the artstyle of an anthropomorphic animal, and just because someone is a furry or has an interest of fursuits/fursuiting, does not mean they want to “be” an animal, fursuits are simply a way of expressing something you created (an OC) similar to cosplay, except you are cosplaying someone you made yourself

What people dont realise because they lve in their own little living bubble is that the furry community/fandom dont accept zoophiles you can ask any furry and 99% of them will say they think they are disgusting. People think being a furry is purely a sexual thing when its not, its just because the fandom accepts so many people (besides zoophiles) that that includes people who do use it as a sexual thing.

also fur suits are not a universal thing either… i’m a furry, but i have no interest whatsoever in getting a suit, not my type to dress up. I guess i’m a furry just because i like the artstyle and i like drawing that art style, some people are furries because they like the fursuits and want to make/commission one but have no interest in drawing/making art, etc, everyone has different reasons and interests, and once again not everyone is hellbent on fkin each other (or animals for that matter, that’s zoophilia and we are strongly against them)

We simply like the style of anthropomorphic animals, I suggest you do some research into the furry community, as memes and the internet has severely twisted the image of furries and related furries to zoophiles, and the great majority of the furry fandom is against any and all type of zoophilia in any shape or form. Furries are just people who likes anthropomorphic animals in various kinds of art, and a big part of the fandom are mostly children who likes to draw sonic and other stuff. It's actually one of the only fandoms with a heterosexual minority (if I'm getting it right), because a lot of LGBTQ+ artists started as furries when younger, since the furry community is the most accepting and supportive art & cosplay community out there.
I'm not a furry anymore since I was 10 y.o. because it wasn't really my style, but I still have a lot of respect for them because they were the ones who helped me start drawing when most people called my art shit.
Keep in mind the fact that the furry fandom is full of children, and just painting that they're whole grown-ass adults who wish to fuck dogs is wrong, problematic and disgusting. It's just like every other fandom with that one weird minority of members that ruins it. /g /nm
