Did dray ever mouth off to David west when they were teammates ?

242

u/Pan-The-Man Warriors Nov 27 '21

Nah David West was one of the very few GS teammates that would be the one doing the yelling at Dray.

22

u/stuck-23 Nov 27 '21

David West they type of dude to sell you a bootleg CD then beat you up if you complained about it.

55

u/BobLoblaw_BirdLaw Nov 27 '21

I’d say probably the only one (outside of drays first couple years)

109

u/Independent_Fox_8964 Nov 27 '21

Nope. There’s actually a video of Draymond getting a technical for yelling at the refs. He kept yelling and was on the verge of getting another tech but David West told Dray to stop and he proceeds to.

54

u/phrayjual Nov 27 '21

Lol yeah D West a legend

35

u/Otherwise_Window Warriors Nov 27 '21

This season Dray has clearly conditioned himself to go over to yell at our bench instead of the refs.

He has had one tech, but it was pure bullshit - he had his back to the ref, he was yelling something to his teammates, based on Steph's reaction whatever it was the ref straight-up misheard it because Steph's face was pure confusion.

135

u/0hootsson Warriors Nov 27 '21

Dray mainly yells at dudes for making mental mistakes on defense and DWest rarely did.

The Warriors do a lot of great things, but that's gotta be my favorite thing they do. Dunno why more teams don't do this. It always irks me to see the Raptors take a turnover at the end of a game to satisfy some nonsense unwritten rule.

If there's a shot clock, shoot the ball.

17

u/cepxico [DAL] Luka Doncic Nov 27 '21

Yes, this. I don't mind a final possession being given up if you're down bad, but until that shot clock goes away there's still ball to play.

At the beginning, Dray just want to hold the ball and let the time running out. Then Covington try to steal it, Nance also coming try to steal it. It triggered Dray so probably in his mind said "f*ck it", just play the last possession and yell Wiggins to shot it even when Wiggins just want to hold the ball.

Wiggins really went from inconsistent to a walking 18 pts a game

347

u/TurbulentJudge1000 Nov 27 '21

He was always a walking 18 point game. Before it was just taking him about 18-25 field goal attempts to do so.

173

u/M0rtal_Wombat Knicks Nov 27 '21

This is the real take. It’s been his efficiency that’s really improved in Golden State not his ppg. Not being th number 1 option and the team creating more space for him has really improved his game

85

u/Otherwise_Window Warriors Nov 27 '21

It's a tough beat for a player to be expected to carry a team in the first couple of years of his career. Wiggins is only now reaching the age where players usually start hitting his prime.

Added to that the Wolves wanted him to be the face of the team and their leader, and he seems to be maybe kinda shy? The Warriors shield him from the media, he never even does half-time/end-of-game interviews - if he was the absolute star of a half/game, the Warriors are still sending someone else to the mic.

With the Warriors he can ball the fuck out and everyone's just really happy about it. He gets limited public praise and absolutely no public criticism, and the absolute minimum amount of media attention the Warriors can get away with.

And he's quietly a top-tier team guy.

23

14

u/Shkillah Warriors Nov 27 '21

i mean he tried doing too much so kinda. but he’s learned his role and excels with his skill set now

67

u/Otherwise_Window Warriors Nov 27 '21

He wasn't clumsy or a buffoon.

He had ADHD and asthma and, by the time the Warriors got him, absolutely wrecked confidence - and wrecked for someone with ADHD, which tends to come with inherently wrecked confidence because you spend your childhood getting told you're not good enough and not trying hard enough (no matter how hard you are, in fact, trying).

The kind of terrible confidence that can make a professional athlete who gets out of breath running on the court think "man I'm so out of shape I suck" not "what the fuck is wrong with my lungs" which delays him finding out he has fucking asthma. So at earlier points in his career he was also suffering from oxygen deprivation.

Kerr fixed him by yanking him any time he made a mistake because his focus started slipping and giving him time to reset his brain. It was brilliant. After a while McGee started to realise he was, in fact, good at his job, and he got better about not getting all nervous. He's a lot better now, because now he has the confidence of knowing he's actually good at basketball instead of thinking he sucks and not knowing why.

6

u/ObiOneKenobae Knicks Nov 27 '21

George Karl was a big part of it too. Imagine being a young player signed for a meaningful role, the whole front office is in your corner, but every day your coach is out there literally risking his job because of how little he believes in you.

Lol, draymond is perfect for a guy like Wiggins

Dray didn’t care about the TO.

He was salty that Portland was swiping at the ball when he was trying to run it.

So he drove it, kicked it, and yelled at Wiggins to deliver the fuck you.

one of my favorite things about sitting in the lower bowl during the bogut era was how clearly I could hear him and dray shouting at everyone what to do

I loved that part of peak covid era basketball when you could hear all the communication between the players. Draymond is especially a joy to listen to.

What excuse do the blazers have now? They couldn’t beat the KD warriors and still can’t beat them (even with no Klay) . Blow it up

u/Raonak Warriors Nov 27 '21

Literally nobody has beat the KD warriors.

Can't beat Steph KD Klay and Dray

Can't beat Steph Klay and Dray

Can't beat Steph and Dray

u/WaterIsNotWet19 NBA Nov 27 '21

I know. Warriors lost a lot of guys since then and it seems the blazers have just been pretty stagnant.

I think you're missing the point. Steph is the consistent link. You know, the best player in the NBA right now.

I mean...I’m saying this in the most respectful way possible but I really think people discount how important Luck can be when it comes to winning a championship. Everything had to go right for Kawhi and the Raptors to be in the position they were to win and they had enough talent to do so.

That being said...Game 6 was hella close even with Injuries and that should tell you how talented BOTH teams were. That being said sometimes It’s better to be Lucky when it comes to the playoffs.

Honestly Curry/the warriors almost fought through the bad injury luck to push a game 7. But the Raptors and Kawhi were able to outmatch it.

But even outside of all that Kawhi was sent to a team that could actually use his talent and the East was wide open because Lebron had left it. Plus all the other events that followed.

Either way...no team has 3 peated since they changed the first round to be best of 7 during the Kobe and Shaq dominance.

Wiggins at the end of his shift, punched in his usual 17-25 points. All of a sudden this customer ask a full blown meal just when he's mentally checked out and just waiting the clock.
