Not to influence your experience too much, but the base game is the best game I’ve ever played. Don’t look anything up, just go in blind.

The DLC is still good, but not quite the same IMO. Maybe I just had absurdly high standards.

6

u/TheBruffalo Nov 09 '21

Fallout 2 is my favorite game of all time, I remember when it came out, I was probably 13. I probably played through the game 50 times.

5

u/itsfuckingpizzatime Nov 11 '21

You’re in for a treat with Outer Wilds. It’s a once in a lifetime experience. Definitely play at night, and maybe a little high, but definitely not too high.

3

u/enticingtick Nov 11 '21

Like a medium high...between 1-1000 I'd say a 420

13

u/Titanium-Hunter Nov 09 '21

Dragon Age Origins for the first time. Very satisfying party based RPG. At current point in game I play with 3 mages and one warrior tank (Alistair). It's fun!

Man I remember playing DA:O for the first time. It's a hell of game enjoy the ride friend!

Playing through Mass Effect Legendary Edition while I wait for Battlefield 2042 to release later this week!

u/san_sebastian88 Nov 09 '21

I just bought Dead Space and am replaying it for the first time since 2008 and I love it *just as much* now as I did then. It's hard to find a good horror game that I enjoy....I think this one set the standard of horror games to me.

I've also been playing through Titanfall 2 (really loving the gameplay and banter between BT and Cooper), Division 2 (just fun to pick up and run around in) and I'm super excited for Back 4 Blood.

3

u/Gundam_Asstronaut Nov 10 '21

Dead Space is one of my favorite games. Have you played the Resident Evil 2 remake? If not, it's worth trying out the demo.

Forza Horizon 5. This game is fun as hell and looks incredible! It's been ages since I liked, cared or even bought a racing game full price day one. Think the last time that happened was Midnight Club 3 back in the day

2

u/thatkidgobe Nov 12 '21

Literally me. Haven’t played a racing since like an early need for speed…. But forza looks dope. Might buy.

21

u/EmiliaIsBestWaifu Nov 09 '21

I have to many games to play that I don't want to play anything

5

u/Jonnydoo Nov 09 '21

I have this problem too. I force myself to play a game and after about 15 min i'm into it.

7

u/GameStunts Nov 09 '21

Sigh I fell off the wagon and I'm back on Rocket League after about 8 months of not playing. One of the reasons I left last time was because it tended to block me trying any new games or playing anything else.

I was playing Atlas (like Ark Survival Evolved but on the Sea), and solo built a Schooner and then a Brigantine, but the game kind of stopped there for me because I'm not capable of soloing big bosses or end game content, and so all I could do was dig up treasure to pay for a crew to sail to the next treasure... repeat.

The game made the choice for me though, some patch landed that meant I couldn't login for about 3 days, I figured the crew would probably have starved, some of my structures had decayed, thought fuck it, and deleted the game. Not going to just login to feed a crew because of some sunk cost fallacy. I got a couple of months out of it, and enjoyed them, time to move on.

I've got Game Pass so I'm going to install Forza Horizon 5 in the 100gb space left by Atlas.

I also bought Watch Dogs Legion about 2 months ago and still haven't fired it up, going to give that a go at.. some point... before the end of the year hopefully.

2

u/flinndo Nov 09 '21

I am also just returning to Rocket League, always drags me back in…

3

u/GameStunts Nov 09 '21

I think what I find most unsettling is how easily I slot back in, especially to the quick chats, 10 seconds and I realised I was already saying "I got it" "Whoops" "Sorry!" (I'll leave it to your imagination what happened).

I mean, a racing game, you get the idea of the physics and off you go. A shooter, move your mouse, boom headshot, these skills make sense and are pretty transferable, so it's understandable that I can just drop back into any FPS and play it.

But Rocket League doesn't play like anything else - Jump, lean back, rocket boost to fly, to hit a ball at a goal, don't try to double jump after about half a second etc. These controls are completely unique to Rocket League. I don't think I picked up my controller more than 5 times (to play a quick race in Forza) for the whole time I was away, yet there I am, just slip right back into the controls :/

2

u/flinndo Nov 10 '21

100%. I just played a couple of casual matches to get my bearings, did my placement matches and right back into the rank that I left haha. I do find it annoying that there is a penalty for leaving casual matches now though…

2

u/GameStunts Nov 10 '21

Yeah the Casual match leaving is kind of bollocks, here's what I know about it.

  • It resets every 24 hours.

  • Your first quit of the day doesn't count.

  • You'd have to quit 4 matches in a row to get up to the 20 minute ban mark.

  • There is now a "Vote to Concede" similar to "Forfeit" after the 1 minute mark in a match.

  • If your team mate quits after 1 minute, you'll have the "Leave Match" option in the menu and you wont be penalized (similar to competitive).

I think it's dumb, the whole point of casual (and why I played it for a while) was to be able to quit when it suited you, especially to get away from toxic players, but ironically I always found competitive to be where people tried so I ended up in there anyway.

I've been playing for about 5 days, and I'd have to say I've quit a few casual matches in the manner above, and I've not encountered any match making bans. I think ultimately they were trying to weed out the people that would quit when one goal was scored against them, but I still would have preferred casual to just be casual. Too many games demand your attention these days, it was nice to have something you could quit if you needed to.

6

u/callin_ballin Nov 11 '21

Alien: Isolation. Just up to the part where you first meet the androids and I keep shitting myself and running back.

5

u/ln_unknown Nov 09 '21

Been putting time into Divinity Original Sin 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Middle Earth Shadow of War and Deathloop. Only one I haven't beaten yet is Deathloop but I was just in a mood to start playing the others.

4

u/Johnlenham Nov 09 '21

Satisfactory mostly with Apex legends thrown in.

I was debating making a thread asking for PC only game games that have come out in the last 5 years, since alot of the stuff in lists ends up being console ports I've played on Xbox.

1

u/Cheapskate-DM Nov 09 '21

Deep Rock Galactic is the best PC game on the market, hands down.

2

u/Johnlenham Nov 09 '21 edited Nov 09 '21

Ah I have played alot of that on Xbox aha. Not the new update mind you.

Does it have cross ay actually? I could atleast get some use out of playing it at a way higher fps with friends.

1

u/Cheapskate-DM Nov 09 '21

New update is pretty nice, ngl. New guns are juicy as hell.

1

u/enticingtick Nov 11 '21

How is this solo...I don't really have friends that are interested in it but I keep eye balling it.

1

u/Cheapskate-DM Nov 11 '21

It's fine to play with randos, there's a friendly community and the tools are all designed to make co-op easier. There's also a robot buddy if you really want to play alone.

3

u/FrootLoop23 Nov 09 '21

Doing the Game Pass promo, so I'm bouncing around. Initial quick thoughts.

Greedfall - Dang, the combat really does feel kinda blah.

Prodeus - Plays beautifully, levels are well designed, guns have punch...this is one of the better "retro" style shooters

Wreckfest - Not bad, but not ooooh wow either

Back 4 Blood - Y'know, this really is pretty damn good. I'm having a good time with this, and it plays like a dream.

Second Extinction - Nice atmosphere. This mission's pretty lame though. I'll get back to it.

Wrath Aeon of Ruin (Steam): This....there's something off here. Pistol feels weak, but so far the other weapons feel good. Level design is straight blah. Enemies are eh. Not one of the better retro, throwback shooters so far.

1

u/Pants4All Nov 12 '21

Been playing Second Extinction solo and really digging the combat but it needs more content. However it's only $25 and still in EA so I can't complain. It’s made by the same developer as Generation Zero but definitely a different type of FPS game.

4

u/justsomeguy75 Nov 09 '21

Just ran through HL2 Episodes 1 and 2 for the first time since they release. God I forgot how amazing they are, especially Episode 2. That ending though, oof.

Highly recommend a quick run through if you haven't played them before. They still hold up so well.

Playing Dark Souls 3, then DS2

u/cheerstothefirstyear 3080 5900x Nov 10 '21

Enjoy!

u/RayzTheRoof Nov 10 '21

Forza 5

Well, trying to. The cracked pirated version works fine, yet the legit version cannot even launch. They even have a support page that tells you to close or uninstall basically all software like Discord or G Hub, and also to disable your virus protection.

3

u/Shirasagi-Himegimi Nov 10 '21

I just started playing Guild Wars 2 after trying to get back into Elder Scrolls Online on Xbox. Played ESO for for a couple years and honestly I just can't bring myself to care about the game anymore.

That being said I'm looking forward to giving GW2 a shot as I've heard it's a pretty casual mmo and honestly I just don't have the time to treat games like second jobs anymore.

3

u/jvdoles Nov 10 '21

Played a bit of FH5, but it didn't really clicked for me. Anyone felt that too?

3

u/ligital Nov 10 '21

Been playing the Master Chief Collection, and playing the classic games for the first time ever, and man I am having a blast. Right now on Halo 3, which I do wish they remastered, since they did such a beautiful job with Halo 2 Anniversary edition.

Also been playing Horizon 5 on XBox Game Pass as breaks from work, and it's such a blast to play a driving game that let's you go anywhere and do anything. It's one of the most beautiful games I have played as well.

6

u/RayzTheRoof Nov 09 '21

Installing Forza Horizon 5

Why does Microsoft, a leader in software, have such awful download speeds? Steam uses my full gigabit speed damn near always, meanwhile I am sitting at 40% of that speed through Microsoft Store (same on Xbox app). And sometimes the speed is even at 3 MB/s for the whole download, with none of the workarounds ever working.

Swapping between Forza Horizon 5 and CoD Vanguard. I'm a bit concerned about BF 2042 so I'll wait for reviews.

4

u/GreenTeaRex007 Nov 10 '21 edited Nov 10 '21

Lol I’m the opposite. I’m concerned about Vanguard and already preorder 2042.

2

u/ecfreeman 12900K | RTX 3070ti | 32GB DDR5 | Win 11 Nov 10 '21

This is the way. BF2042 is looking to be pretty awesome, especially with Portal, and I really enjoyed the beta. Just got my 12900k in and upgraded my system in time. I'm skipping Vanguard after the abysmal beta, just wasn't fun at all.

4

u/dan0314 Nov 09 '21

RDR2. Really enjoying the game even though I was hesitant with the slower gameplay. Just got to chapter 3 and enjoying doing side missions and hunting aninalsn

2

u/cloudsheep0 RTX 3070 TI | Ryzen 7 5700G Nov 09 '21

Been playing Trails of Cold Steel III and been taking my sweet time with it. I heard it's a very long game so I don't want to rush through and miss some important bits in the story. With all the characters at this point I kind of forgot some of them and I actually had to read up who some of them were (I did play Trails in the Sky but it was 4 years ago!)

Apart from that I've been also playing Cyber Hook. I realize fast pace games aren't really my thing these days but Cyber Hook's level designs are pretty solid imo and they made them to played in quick bursts so I'm enjoying my time with it so far!

2

u/Anton-Slavik i7 9700k/GTX 1080/2x16GB RAM Nov 09 '21

What a coincidence someone brings up Trails of Cold Steel.

Can you tell me, do the games actually feature some kind of fantasy mecha suits as playable parts of the game?

2

u/cloudsheep0 RTX 3070 TI | Ryzen 7 5700G Nov 09 '21

Yes there is a mech portion but I have to warn you it's a rock-paper-scissors type of game where you have to guess the enemies weak point (also turned based). If you're like expecting something like Zone of the Enders or something this is not that. The game is more focused on narrative than mech sections which are not the main portion of the game (and the design for it is a bit of a mixed bag in my personal opinion).

here's an example of the gameplay

Hope this helps!

2

u/Anton-Slavik i7 9700k/GTX 1080/2x16GB RAM Nov 09 '21

Thank you for elaborating, I guess I'll be skipping out on it then, really more in the mood for mecha action, but that's rare on PC.

2

u/cloudsheep0 RTX 3070 TI | Ryzen 7 5700G Nov 09 '21

If you haven't played it I highly recommend Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner which also has a demo!

There's also Daemon X Machina and Project Nimbus (Sequel coming out for this one next year). That'd be some recommendations for you :)

2

u/Anton-Slavik i7 9700k/GTX 1080/2x16GB RAM Nov 09 '21

I actually already played Daemon X Machina, bought it almost right after it released on PC. And funny thing, I just bought Zone of the Enders and Project Nimbus as they went on sale. Also got MASS Builder. Still, thank you. It's a shame how rare it is to find mecha games on PC, at least natively.

2

u/san_sebastian88 Nov 09 '21

I completely forgot about Zone of the Enders. I remember playing it 15-20 years ago and loving the soundtrack. And being impressed with the....high quality polygonal graphics at the time.

1

u/RHINO_Mk_II Ryzen 3700X & RTX 2070Super Nov 09 '21

in the mood for mecha action

I've been having some fun with Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries recently. Only caveat is that it's much more fun in co-op with friends as your AI teammates can be dumb as bricks sometimes.

1

u/Anton-Slavik i7 9700k/GTX 1080/2x16GB RAM Nov 09 '21

I appreciate the recommendation, but I asked about mecha games, not mech games. But to be fair I'm already playing MechWarrior Living Legends for my mech fix, so I'm well taken care of.

1

u/RHINO_Mk_II Ryzen 3700X & RTX 2070Super Nov 09 '21

Fair enough.

2

u/PENISBUTTER_JELLY Nov 09 '21

World of Warships and Escape from Tarkov, because I hate myself.

2

u/JotaroAnuelGucci Nov 09 '21

Hitman 2 ,AC odyssey and Dark souls 3, having alot of fun with all of em

2

u/GioMike RTX 2070/i7-8700k/16GB @3200 Nov 11 '21

Great games

2

u/EgbertCream Nov 10 '21

I’m playing Forza 5 cause it’s on game pass. I tried it with my racing wheel (which I don’t have very much experience with. Just project cars in VR) and I totally sucked and had to switch to game pad to be any kind of competitive. Liking it so far! Real pretty Mexico graphics.

2

u/OeilBlanc R5 3600 RX6700xt Nov 10 '21

I just built my PC after ordering all the parts from the U.S I am enjoying The Division 2 at the moment but I am trying to open my horizons to PC games I could not play cause they were not ported to console. Any advice

2

u/itsfuckingpizzatime Nov 11 '21

Playing the Outer Wilds DLC Echoes of the Eye. God damn this game is so good. It’s amazing how well these devs are able to hide things in plain sight, with simply knowledge being the obstacle.

2

u/Minkelz Nov 11 '21

AoE4. Grinding 1v1 and throwing in some team games when want something a bit more relaxed. The sacred sites and wonders stop the game going too long and lead to some great close calls as opposed to typical massive long AoE2 battles that just sort send everyone to sleep. Desperately need a patch though for exploits and balance.

2

u/enticingtick Nov 11 '21

Red dead redemption 2...its immersive and gorgeous at 4k. And satisfactory...I love creating worlds and calculating ratios to be 100% efficient. Its...satisfying lol

1

u/Anton-Slavik i7 9700k/GTX 1080/2x16GB RAM Nov 09 '21

Been playing Garrison Archangel. A lovely low budget mecha game, that from the first look of it, I didn't think I'd enjoy it. Thank fuck for that demo, it changed my mind and I bought the game.

1

u/Denzillias Nov 09 '21

Been playing battlefield 2 with MODs, here's a video I made of me playing heat of battle mod https://youtu.be/LHuSJBfe7xA

1

u/Jonnydoo Nov 09 '21

I miss this game so much.

1

u/BassMad Nov 09 '21

Rift Wizard. Feels like a traditional roguelike but each level is fully revealed so it makes deciding your spells and placement feel meaningful. It's very challenging too so it has been drawing me back to try new builds, which is extremely rare for a game to do for me these days.

1

u/CoffeeLoverNathan Nov 09 '21

Lost Ark. 55 hours in, phenomenal so far. Game feels very, very fluid. Each continent is unique, dungeons are some of the best I've ever done in a game period. I feel the game could do with another week in beta but that's just me. It has a lot to offer

2

u/Kerune403 Nov 10 '21

I hate playing that many hours in beta, just to start over - but I really can't wait for this game lol.

1

u/C3t4nu Nov 10 '21

Couldn't wait for it either, started playing the RU version to get to know the game at own pace. Only have an hour or two at night given the schedule I have. I wouldn't have been able to explore what it all has to offer during the current beta. So settled with that for now.

Can't wait for the full release next year. Would likely have to play it with a VPN given Belgium's lootbox law thing. But that's just a small effort vs the vast amount of entertainment I'll get out of it.

1

u/homer_3 Nov 10 '21

Same. I just did the prologue and stopped because I wouldn't want to have to redo too much.

1

u/_ObsidianOne_ Nov 09 '21

Wait until you reach to late game ;)

1

u/CoffeeLoverNathan Nov 09 '21

I don't think I'll get to it before beta ends tbh. Although I'm 47 now, so maybe X)

1

u/_ObsidianOne_ Nov 09 '21

They are not gonna reset the progress ?

1

u/CoffeeLoverNathan Nov 09 '21

They are as far as we know

1

u/_ObsidianOne_ Nov 09 '21

Well you should not invest many time to it then imo.

1

u/CoffeeLoverNathan Nov 09 '21

I would rather see the end game for myself than other people's opinions tbh

2

u/_ObsidianOne_ Nov 09 '21

Lol , you took it completely wrong. Do whatever you want , i meant for beta.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '21

Currently playing through all the Halo game's. Also playing Control which I didn't think I'd enjoy but for 64p it was a bargain lol

1

u/Celery_Duff Nov 11 '21

Been playing a ton of Riders Republic. Pretty underrated and under-promoted game. Also just finished Inscryption which was incredible.

1

u/starrstorm1 Nov 11 '21

I’m in exactly the same boat as you, finished inscryption about a week ago and absolutely loved it and needed to fill the void it left so I picked up katana zero which was way shorter than I expected then snagged riders republic and I’m having a blast with it! All the vehicles are super fun and the map is beautiful, wish it was getting more praise!

1

u/Freyar Nov 11 '21

I've been dabbling in Forza Horizon 5, Outer Worlds, and hopped back into X3.
I'm waiting impatiently for FFXIV's expansion.

Forza Horizon 5 has been great. The only downside is I've not been able to find my G25's power supply, so I'm stuck only using a controller. I own one of the cars in that game and drive it daily, so I'm pleased to all hell to be able to drive it on a virtual track.

Outer Worlds is a weird game. I feel it's Black Isle/Obsidian influences, but it feels a bit rushed at the start and there's something up with performance and FOV that just make it difficult to really get into. Maybe I'll take some "concentration powder" and sit down with it over the weekend.

X3 has been great since I can play it as a trader while watching Critical Role or talking with people. It's been pretty chill and the UI is so much easier to deal with than X4. That said, it is kidn of surprising just how small X3 feels in comparison.

1

u/juandruiz Nov 11 '21

Doom 2016. I played eternal first and liked it a lot. The prequel although not as frenetic as eternal, it’s quite enjoyable.

1

u/Rainy_J Nov 11 '21

Been playing through the Master Chief Collection. I've played 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and now playing Reach. Last up is ODST and I'll be all recaught up for Halo Infinite

After that probably dipping my toes into Fallout 3 or New Vegas for the first time

1

u/maplesyrup187 Nov 11 '21

Right now Borderlands 3, and Fall Guys. Can't wait for the 6th season!!! Reminds me of this game on dreamcast I used to play called "Pen Pen Trilcelon" when I was a kid.

1

u/psychopasscode Nov 13 '21

Just started Hollow Knight today. I've held off for some time because I'm really not into 2D platformers. But the recent Elden Ring hype got me itching for a souls-like and I saw it on Game Pass so I thought "let's give it a shot". And damn, I do NOT regret it. From the moment I heard the title screen music I was really drawn in by the world. Exploring the cave system and mapping out the areas is a lot of fun and the general atmosphere is just very well crafted.

However, I was slightly underwhelmed by the gameplay depth. Just jumping and hitting feels just a tiny bit too simplistic and I didn't really feel challenged by the first two bosses. I just got a ranged skill now so I'm hoping it gets more complex as the game goes on.

1

u/Smugallo Nov 14 '21

I'd love to play the pc metal gear solid games, but I know there's loads of games. Really not keen on playin the old ones (dated mechanics etc). Can I still enjoy the story if I jump into one of the latest ones?

u/Wild_Fun_4923 Nov 14 '21

Fallout 4 - GTA V - FarCry new dawn - Prepar3D
