I mean they let anyone make a warhammer game. I mean look at what’s been released over the years.

24

u/nastylep Dec 08 '21

I'll still take that over the Star Wars model of selling an exclusive license to EA then watching them do fuck all with it.

0

u/LuntiX Dec 08 '21

Yeah true. Though I didn’t mind the games EA gave us. SWTOR I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and am looking forward to the new expansion, Battlefront is fun despite not being an exact copy of the OG games, and Jedi Fallen Order was quite fun.

There’s probably some games I’m missing too.

11

u/nastylep Dec 08 '21

Yeah it's just skimpy. I think this meme says it pretty well.

We don't get any of those fun spin off-y games like Bounty Hunter or Republic Commando anymore.

6

u/LuntiX Dec 08 '21

Yeah that’s true. They didn’t do much with the IP. I think EA put out more Star Wars mobile games than anything.

5

u/Vichnaiev Dec 08 '21

Some of the smaller titles are actually good. I recently enjoyed Battlesector, for example. Not a AAA by any means. It's on a budget and it shows, but it was entertaining. Obviously this is the exception and not the rule. Most are trash.

4

u/LuntiX Dec 08 '21

Oh yeah for sure. It’s a lot of wading through mediocrity to find something fun. I really liked Mechanicus and Hired Gun. I’ve been eyeing Battlesector but I’m gonna wait to see what else they add to it.

6

u/Projectbarett Dec 08 '21

If you haven't tried Vermintide 2 it's a great game.

5

u/LuntiX Dec 08 '21

I love Vermintide 2. It hate that I don’t play it more, I think not having a regular crew kills my motivation to play it more.

I can’t wait for Darktide.

u/LeftUnknown Dec 08 '21

Right? As soon as I saw Nexon, I knew I wouldn’t touch this game with a pole

5

u/nastylep Dec 08 '21

What's wrong with them? I don't think I've heard of Nexon before.

21

u/LeftUnknown Dec 08 '21

They tend to smash pay2win into their games, and are infamous for putting their games on life support within months, run of the mill KMMO stuff

5

u/nastylep Dec 08 '21

Ahh, damn. Thanks, though.

3

u/AdminsSuck199999 Dec 09 '21

If you heard of Maplestory, you heard of Nexon

Or Combat Arms, or Mabinogi, or Dragon Nest or even Dirty Bomb.

Damn I realize now that I played a lot of Nexon games over the years.

1

u/NahaldineMorano Dec 09 '21

Dirty Bomb was pretty cool imo, only played it for a few month though idk what they did to it after that.

3

u/AdmiralCrackbar . Dec 08 '21

Eh, as soon as I saw "Age of Sigmar" I knew the same thing.

6

u/Kudryavka24 Dec 08 '21

IIRC Nexon just went through some huge restructuring. Time will tell if they continue their old ways lmao

24

u/SuggestiveEggplant Dec 08 '21

Come on GW, AOS is your choice?

6

u/BaronKlatz Dec 08 '21

Of course, it’s a massively successful franchise at around 38% their total profits and one of the big three pillars of their company along with 40k & LotR.

The AoS gaming license has been out now since 2017 so it’s only natural we’re seeing the start of the game flood that 40k gets now that titles have had 5+ years to be worked on.

12

u/LordxMugen Happy 20th Xbox!! Dec 08 '21

Yeah but....its literally just "Old World Space Marines". At least when it comes to humans anyway.

7

u/BaronKlatz Dec 08 '21 edited Dec 08 '21

Oh man, you’re looking at the tiniest fragment of it. It’s vast battles of the gods with their demigod armies through different infinite magic realities that can range from anything from eyeless sea warriors on flying sharks vs armies of super titan-wizards with lore that is always moving forward and progressing like we just had Morathi swim through Slaanesh’s guts to eat souls and ascend to true goddesshood, orchestrate a coup that claimed a long standing Sigmar city as her own now, Slaanesh giving birth to twins & the rise of a new god of Destruction, Kragnos, and whole space battles between the space dinos Seraphon in their temple fleets against Tzeentch Silver Towers in the depths of the void between realms as the Realm of Metal’s central realmgates were destroyed but the Realm of Life has grown in power and now spreads cosmic roots across the void to flood the others with healing life magic which the Order gods have jumped on by sending down megalith floating island fortresses for the mortals to bring into the cleansed lands and make new settlements.

“Fantasy marines” that are actually immortal lightning demigods that keep resurrecting to fulfill their mission of reuniting the races(mortals, greenskins, undead, etc) and bringing the gods back together in a peaceful pantheon is but one flavor in the mortal realms stew-pot.

It's fucking stupid is what it is.

7

u/AdmiralCrackbar . Dec 08 '21

Being successful doesn't make it good. Twilight was successful.

1

u/BaronKlatz Dec 08 '21

To each their own. Never had more fun and interest in the hobby since I started in Wfb 7th edition.

Just keeps getting better and better. Lightning demigods and vampire-centaurs ho! :D

-2

u/Moths_to_Flame Dec 08 '21

People love to complain “hur my Old World” but age of sigmar has better models, better rules, and more varied races

4

u/BaronKlatz Dec 08 '21 edited Dec 08 '21

And just really cool lore, especially if you love epic fantasy stuff.

Like the difference between Realm of Life & Realm of Beasts continents are night and day as the life ones are actually alive and have male & female genders to which they drift together in mating seasons and break apart again to birth new lands and sky islands while Beast’s continents literally eat eachother and have whole countries of digested land remains. This is why cities stay on “Apex Continents” the others are too scared to attack.

(The Beast Realm itself is just as vicious. Why does it have the fewest and farthest away moons of any realm? Because it reached out and ate them so now the remaining prey moons are wary while the Ghur suns continue to rampage aimlessly through the skies, to many time-keepers annoyance)

Edit: the gods themselves keep doing badass mythological stuff too like how God-king Sigmar gave his Vanguard Stormcast hunters(knight-zephyrs) wind teleportation powers.

“They are imbued with the death cry of Ulfdengnarl, the Great Wolf of the Howling Winds, a godbeast slain by Sigmar in the Age of Myth whose final wail was encased in crystal. As Stormcast Eternals, they continue their hunt for enemy officers, whilst demonstrating all of the Great Wolf ’s instincts for pursuing and destroying prey.”

u/solid_steak1 RTX 2060 Super i5 8400 16GB Dec 09 '21

I'm quite new to warhammer, but I quite like the Stormcast. Much more then what I know of the space marines, but that's just my taste.

4

u/A_Privateer Dec 09 '21

They might be cool as the “angelic” counterparts to demons, but I have zero interest in the AoS world building.

0

u/BaronKlatz Dec 09 '21

Haha, good taste. ;)

There’s a lot of facets to Stormcast as they’re immortal warriors reforged from heroic men and women of any background but also strive to be diplomats and peacemakers while also shouldering the burdens of being the shields of mortal kind and losing bits of their humanity with every reforging causing memory or emotion loss as they slowly grind down to go from celestial heroes to supernatural lightning golems. And depending on the Stormhost this can be something they do their best to fight against and keep some part of themselves around or embrace like the Celestial Vindicators of the Metal realm who want to be living weapons like their god made out of sentient runeblades(Stormcasts can worship multiple gods besides Sigmar despite there being a piece of him in all of them)

Cubicle7’s Soulbound has a lot of great depth with them on the peacemaker and adventurer side.

“ All Knights-Azyros are warriors, first and foremost, but not all strive to be the gleaming spear tip of Azyr to be thrust into the dark. Many perform vital roles as ambassadors and peacemakers, flying on swift wings between the Free Cities and the dark states beyond the territories of the forces of Order. Others may sit as inquisitors or judges, bringing the wisdom of Sigmar to bear in cases too severe and thick with the taint of Chaos for mortal officials.”

GW are greedy idiots when it comes to thier IP.

1

u/BaronKlatz Dec 08 '21 edited Dec 08 '21

I would wish they went with someone else but this is the usual gameplan with their IP’s. Hand it out to anyone who asks and then sit back as they get that free stream of royalties and free advertising for their real money maker, the models.

If it doesn’t do well they’ll already have 3 or more other deals on the way for a chance at better games to overshadow it soon.

39

u/Zragaz Dec 08 '21

Nexon huh? So grindy, no soul and P2W is going to be the building blocks.

Why not a western developer? Nexon will kill this game after 3-4 months with stupid prices and horrible copy paste mechanics.
fantastic! Dead before arrival.

I would like a warhammer MMO but not like this.

8

u/LordxMugen Happy 20th Xbox!! Dec 08 '21

I want the ORIGNAL Age of Reckoning. The idea as it was before EA turned it into a WoW wannabe. Maybe add the 3rd "Neutral" faction with Lizardmen, Tombkings, and Rats.

2

u/ghsteo Dec 08 '21

Seriously all they had to do was mix DAoC and Warhammer and it was a win. Instead they fell into the WoW trap.

6

u/Acturio Dec 08 '21

to be fair i dont think there are any western developers that would want to make a MMO, except maybe for Amazon to replace the LotR mmo that they arent doing anymore, but even them after all the problems with New World im not sure they want another one

1

u/arshesney Dec 09 '21

To be honest, Warhammer is the ultimate P2W tabletop game.

2

u/Zragaz Dec 09 '21

Depends on what rules you are running

Im not into the new stuff, but as far as i understand it you are correct.
There are no limits on army size in points or units.

But older warhammer the only one i play there we have army points.

1

u/arshesney Dec 09 '21

There are army points, correct, but the strongest models are usually the more expensive ones. I don't know much about AoS as well, but in the Old World an army made of mostly plastic basic units and few cheap characters would struggle against one that could field more expensive models like cavalry, monsters or legendary lords.

2

u/Zragaz Dec 09 '21

Ay however that would limit ones size and ability to capture points.
So while you might slaughter in terms of numbers, you would not win the fight.

11

u/firelordUK Dec 08 '21

Holy Sigmar, why must you do your followers like this

9

u/crocdadon Dec 08 '21

I still miss playing age of reckoning. Specifically got ddr2 ram to keep up with the game.

24

u/Chaos_Machine Dec 08 '21

Pay close attention to the line about "for global distribution on pc, consoles, and mobile" to inform you on what type of game this will be.

Also making a PVE centric mmo based on Warhammer is a huge waste of the IP and makes it just another high fantasy tolkienesque wow clone with an emo-streak. I am imagining Mythic(now EA)'s defunct Warhammer Online without the PVP...

However, visually, Nexon totally would be able to pull off the grimdark visual style of Warhammer. They have very talented artists.

9

u/-Phinocio Dec 08 '21

The Nexon part gives me more of an indication of what kind of game it'll be tbh lol

1

u/BaronKlatz Dec 08 '21

tolkienesque wow clone

At least Age of Sigmar has a bit of leeway on that since it’s epic fantasy elemental flat-planes instead of high fantasy which makes a lot of it’s realmscapes look like this or like this which should help it clear the hurdle of generic fantasy earth look.( though WoW Shadowlands similarities can happen but that’s more on WoW having an eyebrow-raising amount of things that AoS did)

3

u/Chaos_Machine Dec 08 '21

The point is that it is not a vary unique setting without all the grimdark conflict going on, and making a PVE centric mmo in the warhammer universe is squandering the "war" part of warhammer.

8

u/Shajirr Dec 08 '21

Nexon

and that's all I need to know, HARD SKIP

4

u/[deleted] Dec 08 '21

Nexon

I've hear enough, good bye.

4

u/VindicoAtrum Dec 08 '21

New PvE Social Multiplayer With Next Generation RPG And Social Features

They never learn. This'll be pump and dump. Sell enough copies and micro txns in the first few months to profit then dump when the population dies, as it inevitably does in PvE MMOs because there's never a way to keep dropping content as fast as it's consumed.

9

u/Biggu5Dicku5 Dec 08 '21

Age of Sigmar eh? That's a shame...

6

u/Deadpoetic6 Dec 08 '21

WH40K mmo or GTFO

3

u/MonteBellmond Dec 08 '21

Nexon? Oh Hell no. F the company for leaking personal information leading to my account getting hacked. After all the time and money put into their game, they got none of my items back. Had the audasity to send a auto reply stating they cannot help me. Love warhammer games but that company just kills the vibe for me.

6

u/Vichnaiev Dec 08 '21

Why western companies handle their IPs to korean devs is beyond my comprehension. They only develop grindy trash p2w mobile garbage, but still Marvel, DC, Games Workshop, etc keep feeding them their IPs.

7

u/tapperyaus . Dec 08 '21

Because the p2w garbage makes money

5

u/Radulno Dec 08 '21

Because it makes money. Also to be fair, GW whores out Warhammer licenses to anyone so it's not really a criteria. Anyone asking get it

-7

u/LKMarleigh Dec 08 '21

Plenty of western companies making trash mobile garbage, nice bit of racism there

5

u/TheNedsHead Dec 09 '21

Someone hasn't played a korean MMO before lol

6

u/Vichnaiev Dec 08 '21

Yeah, my personal racism is what created the "korean grind fest" expression:

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Korean%20grind%20fest

An amalgamated phrase that defines a MMO game; designed, created, etc, by a Korean gaming cooperation, where the majority of gameplay involves repetitive and/or recycled tasks reiterating ad infinitum.

This isn't, AT ALL, a problem known for decades. It's my own personal racism.

2

u/Triquick Dec 08 '21

Do it Nexon! Create Genshin Impact Warhammer!

1

u/BaronKlatz Dec 08 '21

Honestly probably the best outcome.

A free to play rpg on multiple systems that draws you in to the shops would mirror GW’s current practice of free rules, stories and models(every month their stores give a free new model & collector’s coin) to draw hobbyists into their ecosystem.

2

u/Triquick Dec 08 '21

I just want to see Nexon try to get on the anime girl/boy waifu action with ....I don't know I would say space marines but in this case maybe bearded dwarfs, prick elves, and guys with funny hates?

1

u/BaronKlatz Dec 08 '21

Definitely would have an easier time going Lumineth with that. Their heroes are hugely anime-esque like the Twins model and their whole faction is rocking an oriental aesthetic since they live on the literal rising sun that lights up most of the other realms.

2

u/KaioKen Dec 09 '21

Nexon

Abandon all hope of this being any good.

4

u/Unhelpful-Make-Work Dec 08 '21

While I'd love to shit on Nexon, Amazon just bombed an MMO release, and Mark Jacobs really screwed up the last Warhammer MMO so it's not like we're dealing with a record of success here.

Might as well roll the dice.

1

u/ganon4688 Dec 08 '21

Just remember saying reforge in chat improves your chances and not to buy any cubes since they're bugged for your gender and will be secretly for the next 5 years

1

u/Spearlord Dec 08 '21

Why not 40K ???

1

u/PantsNotQuite Dec 08 '21

Sigmar balls🤣
