That is weird since it works fine with The Master Chief Collection.

At this point I'm convinced that MCC was made by a completely different studio.

u/feedseed664 Dec 08 '21

Remember mcc took years to get into a playable state.

If only the studio that made Infinite could’ve used MCC as a jumping off point…

11

u/Delta5931 . Dec 08 '21

They did, actually. All of MCC's systems, like the Battle Pass and Challenges, are in Infinite. It's just that the higher-ups at 343i and Microsoft said "How can we make this as anti-consumer and money gouging as we possibly can?"

12

u/cantonic Dec 08 '21

It was a joke since it’s the same studio but it’s missing tons of features that are in MCC.

u/ChonkySpud Dec 09 '21

Its a new engine, and the games in mcc were already made they are all just ports with optimisation, i think its a pretty unfair comparison. Expecially when mcc and all the games are so old already.

I do think no cross save is wack though, expecially since its already cross play

u/cantonic Dec 09 '21

Also missing features from Halo 5. But again, it’s a joke. I’m excited to play the game. I think they just overlooked a lot of little things that people like. Service Record is a very simple example!

Yea you can definitely tell the game is coming out hot, even with the delays, im hopeful we will get alot of updates though due to this "ten year plan" they have talked about

MCC doesnt have a battle pass, it has free seasons. While it does have challenges that unlock tokens infinite has a XP system (if you want to call it that) to rank the pass up. You can choose what to unlock in what ever order you want per page as long as you collect all 10 items from that page.

In a blog post that's long since been lost to time, a 343 developer came out and said that the systems they were fielding in MCC were going to be similar to the systems that they would be implementing in Infinite. We can see this in that the Battle Pass (which is what it is) lasts forever, and has tiers and "sets" of gear. The Battle Pass used to be unlocked linearly, but that was changed due to feedback.

Seasonal Challenges, in a way, resemble the Tenrai event. Perform specific tasks, get rewarded for those tasks.

Tokens effectively represent a level-up, and I would argue was a future-proofing measure that 343 was looking into to see if they could implement a similar system into Infinite. They thus far haven't, and I doubt they will.

Bear in mind that none of this is 1:1. Obviously things have, and in some cases more than others, drastically changed.

I will agree that some things are similar but not the same. Seasonal challenges can also be done at any time during the season like most games. infinite just takes the piss limiting progression and time gating items. I will agree that the pass/seasons share that they don't expire other than the weekly challenges.

Coming from MCC I think it's a step backward I'm not gonna go into detail because I've noaned about how shit the new progression is compared to MCC. I'm just completing the pass while it's long (although I've been grinding just to move back to MCC and revisit months on. I'm tier 85 now and hopefully will be done by the weekend hopefully.

MS and Xbox have been been very pro consumer in recent years though, anything 'anti-consumer' I'm putting down to a genuine mistake or being too ambitious to meet the deadlines in place.

2

u/eagles310 Dec 09 '21

Took almost 7 years to get it in decent shape

2

u/GreyFox1234 Dec 10 '21

That aligns well with their "10 year" plan for Infinite then.

MCC PC had Splash Damage to help out.

This a joke? Halo: Infinite at release is 10000 times more stable and feature rich than MCC was at release. MCC took like 3 years to be good

11

u/jellytothebones Dec 09 '21

You'd think you'd want to buy it just once on the xbox app for that cross-buy instead of buying twice if this matters

10

u/thisisTRIPTEX Dec 08 '21

Why would anyone playing on a console actually play this with steam?

Why would you pay for it twice?

11

u/Ryokupo Dec 08 '21

The game is on Game Pass for starters, and some one may want to play it on their Xbox now while waiting to either build a new PC, or to play it on the Steam Deck.

13

u/Tobimacoss Dec 08 '21

It's Cloud Enabled, Play Anywhere title, that means Cross Buy, Cross Play, Cross Saves between PC, Console, Cloud.

But that applies to MS Store version, why would an Xbox owner buy another copy on Steam? And expect cross saves.

5

u/thisisTRIPTEX Dec 09 '21

Also adding another Xbox account as a family member under your main account gives them access to all games installed on your console for online use as well as enables all installed PC games using both accounts full access to those games.

Short story, one account, two separate devices, online multiplayer with one purchase.

u/anor_wondo RTX 3080 | 8700k Dec 09 '21

"And expect cross saves"

why not? it's the opposite that's more puzzling

4

u/Tobimacoss Dec 09 '21

Because Cross Saves are a benefit of being in the Xbox ecosystem. I mean, that's where the dev priorities lie at launch. I mean, there's nothing wrong with adding cross saves between Console, MS Store, Steam, but they didn't prioritize that due to not enough users who buy copies on Steam and console at launch. If someone wants to do that, by all means, MS should facilitate that but that's down the road, not a big deal right now.

Another thing is, it would simply be extra work for the devs depending on if the games were created with the new GDK vs the Win 10/11 SDK.

https://github.com/microsoft/GDK

The GDK which is MSIXVC packaged Win32, allows devs to create games for PC, Console, Cloud simultaneously, when targeting the Xbox ecosystem with Xbox live backend.

u/anor_wondo RTX 3080 | 8700k Dec 09 '21

alright. so it's just bad design. you can't pretend it's not trivial to make an api call where the package is not natively supported. but the game industry has always been a weird one to me anyways

-4

u/thisisTRIPTEX Dec 08 '21

Yes, I know it's on game pass if you have an Xbox you pretty much need a game pass to play your Xbox online. So if you have an Xbox it wouldn't make any sense to also buy it for steam. When I have my steam deck how likely have it running Windows so I can use any launcher. I'll then use the Xbox app to access my game pass games.

Waste your money if you want, I don't care.

2

u/duck74UK Dec 09 '21

This seems to be a re-occuring issue. Games that store their saves on Xbox's servers don't work with Steam when it comes to syncing save files. Forza Horizon 4 and 5 have this issue too. I assume it's intentional so you can't lock yourself out of the windows store after playing the game on a steam free weekend?

MCC doesn't. But I wonder if that's because it's 2015 roots caused the save files to be stored on 343i's end or smth.

Well that blows. I was gonna start the campaign on my series X then move to PC once patches started dropping

7

u/Bionic0n3 Dec 08 '21

What patches are you expecting? Coop?

You can still do cross-save on Xbox Application from Microsoft. If you're using Game Pass instead of buying the game you'd be using that anyway

2

u/videoguylol Dec 08 '21

Wait, so I could use gamepass to play the game on my PC, and then later purchase it on steam and it would cross-save?

2

u/Tobimacoss Dec 08 '21

In some select games but that is different from play anywhere titles which are cross buy, cross play, cross saves between PC (MS Store), Console, Cloud.

1

u/Dudelulzs Dec 08 '21

PC version is a bit wank on the performance part

1

u/ZeldaMaster32 R9 5900X | RTX 3080Ti | 16GB Dec 09 '21

What patches are you expecting

Patches that fix how shitty the PC version is to play. Vsync is busted, the dynamic res scale is limited to half refresh rate target at 144hz, animations are super low framerate and the camera/framepacing of cutscenes is completely borked alongside 30fps mouth movements

You can still do cross-aave on Xbox Application

Yeah I found this out the other day, probably gonna uninstall the game on Steam otherwise I'll have the multiplayer installed twice

1

u/BorfieYay Dec 09 '21

The rest of the base game once it’s completed is what we are waiting for patch wise lel

3

u/Tobimacoss Dec 08 '21

Did you buy it on Steam?

2

u/ZeldaMaster32 R9 5900X | RTX 3080Ti | 16GB Dec 09 '21

That was the plan originally but I was gonna wait because of the issues reported by Digital Foundry. The Xbox app version / gamepass does have cross save so I'm using that

1

u/tonyt3rry 3700x | 32GB Ram | RTX 3080 Founders. Dec 09 '21

Does the save work fine with Uwp (gamepass pc) and Xbox consoles?

2

u/YouAreNotMeLiar Dec 09 '21

Yes, the tweet says it is the case.

1

u/tonyt3rry 3700x | 32GB Ram | RTX 3080 Founders. Dec 09 '21

Happy days

2

u/InspectorOwn7656 Dec 09 '21

Uwp

That's not a thing anymore. Microsoft titles on the MS store are all Win32 with exposed game files.

1

u/tonyt3rry 3700x | 32GB Ram | RTX 3080 Founders. Dec 09 '21

Last time I checked it was only a few games that supported the new file structure

1

u/InspectorOwn7656 Dec 09 '21

Check again, it’s everything now.
