"Good hops"

747

u/chillyhellion Dec 09 '21 Silver Helpful Wholesome I'm Deceased

The only time "good hops" and "bud light" appear in the same video.

27

u/Hammose Dec 09 '21

Damn. Bud Light out here catching strays.

Unlike these guys.

Why you don't have a million up votes is beyond me.

I suppose because too many people have poor taste in beer.

This is excellent cardio and reflex training for the team. They should incorporate it into their practice regimen

344

u/xmac2004 Dec 09 '21

yea i love how the cat runs by that one player and he’s just like “huh. neat.“

111

u/jorbleshi_kadeshi Dec 09 '21

Players shouldn't be expending energy trying to catch animals on the field. They need that to play the game.

The grounds crew on this was embarrassing.

45

u/Lonely_Pirate_787 Dec 09 '21

To be fair, there's literally an expression that goes "It's like herding cats". It's one of the hardest things to do.

95

u/Custardnufc Dec 09 '21

Have you ever tried catching a cat with that much space for it to run into, their reflexes are renowned and they can be vicious when scared.

65

u/darthbane83 Dec 09 '21

imo its embarrassing that they tried to catch the cat instead of guiding it to an open door to escape somewhere

24

u/jorbleshi_kadeshi Dec 09 '21

This is what I meant

10

u/acceptedfallacy Dec 09 '21

Was looking for someone saying this. Just open the barrier already and let the poor guy out!

34

u/TheGamersGazebo Dec 09 '21

I don’t mean to sound rude (I don’t really watch baseball) but do you need that much energy to play? Seems like a lot of standing around, the like a short burst of sprinting, but seems like not too much activity to me

29

u/NeoQuaker1 Dec 09 '21

I think its more that the players don't want to look like fools chasing an uncatchable cat. Its like chasing a piece of paper in the wind, makes you look like an idiot.

15

u/TenOfZero Dec 09 '21

I think they are more afraid of getting bit and scratched. Which is legit.

5

u/DanteMustDie666 Dec 09 '21

Yeah way less energy needed for baseball then basketball/football

I was at this game. I can assure you the 2021 Yankees severely lacked hustle and reflexes. Cat on the field was the only thing to cheer about - as evidenced by losing by 6 runs to the freaking Orioles. They could learn a thing or two from it.

3

u/D4FTPUNKF4N Dec 09 '21

I’ve been to a game where a cat ran on the field. Most ballparks have cats on staff to help with rats/mice and other stuff.

11

u/Bostradomous Dec 09 '21

This makes so much sense. The cat looked taken care of, and having been to yankee stadium I can’t imagine how it got in, let alone all the way o to the field if it was a stray

542

u/ExoFox_the_furry Dec 09 '21

I love how everyone is like "YEEEEEAAAH" when the cat jumped lmao

174

That cat knew he was winning!

183

u/Technical_War3113 Dec 09 '21

They shouldn't have surrounded the cat and just lead it to an opening

204

u/PensiveObservor Dec 09 '21

Or just open a door and chase it gently but consistently toward the door. It feels like nobody was in charge/had an actual plan. If someone was directing this effort, they were not cat owners! Poor kitty.

119

u/Fay_in_the_Trees Dec 09 '21

They seemed as scared of the cat as the cat was of them.

65

u/Lilpu55yberekt69 Dec 09 '21

Yeah that cat ran straight towards a guy and he jumped over it

69

u/InflammatoryMuskrat Dec 09 '21

Smart move. That cat would have torn the shit out of him. That poor thing was panicking, anyone who actually managed to touch him would end up with some gnarly scars.

12

u/OinkingPigman Dec 09 '21

In my experience, feral cats won't leave scars. Especially gnarly ones.

I've loved cats since I was a wee tike. And our house would get all manner of strays wandering by. I always tried to befriend them. But feral cats don't often get friendly towards humans. More than once I ran one down and caught it, then I'd put them in our shed with food and try to domesticate the buggers. I got scratched a plenty, but cats don't usually leave deep wounds. Much less gnarly scars. All of this was obviously ill-advised, but I was just a kid thinking he was helping.

24

u/littlemonsoon Dec 09 '21

Honestly, a lot of this depends on your age.

I got scratched/bitten plenty when working at the RSPCA as a teenager, and only scarred once (from a deep rat bite).

As a 30yo adult, my mostly domesticated cat scratches me bad enough to scar nearly every time we play :( and she’s not even trying!

Kids’ healing factor is insane.

9

u/jorbleshi_kadeshi Dec 09 '21

Random strays being domesticated by a kid in a shed != Cat in the middle of a roaring stadium with lights all over.

63

u/GreatGreenArkleseize Dec 09 '21

Agreed. They literally just had to open a door. Poor cat was clearly looking for an exit and all they did was chase it in circles and make everything worse.

65

u/bddragon1 Dec 09 '21

my heart broke when they scared it into running against a wall </3

5

u/JailCrookedTrump Dec 09 '21

Well, at two points in the video one of the men on the field signaled to the dudes at the door to open it, only to be ignored.

Worst part is that the people in charge of the door were seemingly holding the door close, as if they absolutely didn't want to allow the cat through there.

3

u/PensiveObservor Dec 09 '21

I did notice those moments and wondered why those door people were being so clueless! My assumption was they weren’t employees, but maybe they were watching the cat, not the men trying to get their attention. What a show haha

2

u/JailCrookedTrump Dec 09 '21

Yes ahahah it was very bad xD

2

u/IamEvilErik Dec 09 '21

Thank you! I literally yelled at this video. Open the door squat down, slowly close the circle, move towards the open door.

6

u/MRiley84 Dec 09 '21

I don't think I'd be able to think properly with thousands of people watching that ridiculous situation. I'd probably follow the lead of the others who were trying to catch the cat as well. It takes someone to step up and be the ring leader in front of everyone else, or else you get what we saw.

62

u/hurdalhooy Dec 09 '21

yeap his tail were fluffy to make him/her self look bigger. They just needed to catch him/her calmly not chase him/her. :(

56

u/InflammatoryMuskrat Dec 09 '21

No way to calm him down with that much noise. Only real move is to chase him toward an open door and ideally outside the stadium, or if that's not possible chase him inside where it's quieter so he can calm down in there. Out on the field there was way too much stimulus to get him calm.

6

u/OtherwiseJello Dec 09 '21

I think it's a young female. Male cats have wider more chunky faces to protect themselves during fights. Female cats generally have smaller faces.

Source: am rescuing ferals right now and am learning what to look for.

28

u/Tb0neguy Dec 09 '21

Yeah they were going about it the absolute worst way.

23

u/flappity Dec 09 '21

They did everything totally wrong! Catching a cat isn't going to happen if you surround it by a bunch of unfamiliar people. You end up with a scared, extremely stressed cat that will NEVER let you pick it up.

72

False, they can be caught, but you will pay for it with sufficient blood. I may or may not have been a dumb brat growing up.

5

u/HollywoodHoedown Dec 09 '21

Nah I’ve “caught” quite a few cats in my time. They just need time and coaxing. I’ve rescued a few this way that have gone on and lived happy domestic lives. My current fleabag being one of them, as well as the one that currently resides with my parents.

Granted it would be a lot more difficult to sit there and gain their trust with 40,000 people screaming at them from the stands, and not having half an hour to sit there and talk to them until they trust you enough to come up to you.

6

u/gaypornaccount1996 Dec 09 '21

9

u/CommunicationClassic Dec 09 '21

It is my understanding that your average downtown baseball stadium can be home to dozens if not hundreds of cats- I would guess there's a lot of food waste and human debris which attracts rodents, and it's sheltered etc so the cats start breeding too. I'm for it.

7

u/Bostradomous Dec 09 '21

I saw another comment that mentioned stadiums keep cats as rodent control and it makes a lot of sense. Especially in a place like NYC

7

u/herefortheshow88 Dec 09 '21

Totally idiotic handling of the situation and very frustrating to watch. They forced that cat to go through way more trouble than necessary. Were they actually expecting to catch the cat and carry it out? All exposed skin would have been annihilated.

5

u/sksjjdjsj Dec 09 '21

That poor baby was scared shitless and they really had a bunch of assholes just chasing it around the field?? If they had managed to pick him up they would have instantly regretted it. Anyone who has tried picking up a scared cat will know exactly why.

I'm autistic, I used to work at a stadium and the boise was hell on me. I cant imagine how bad that poor things ears were hurting from the crowd hollering.

Bear with me for a moment here, but I had a thought.

Maybe what this sport needs is not less, but MORE cats!

Loved the way the crowed was cheering the cat on. And how excited they got every time the cat evaded the people trying to catch it 😂

When a cat on the field is more entertaining than baseball. I mean, can you blame baseball fans for enjoying such a lame ass sport?
