To hide eggs in the mouth and look innocent

You put them there didn't you?

224

u/PinkLaughs Jan 19 '22

100% they were put there

19

u/testedbeast551 Jan 19 '22

it was a set up

110

u/The_Grubby_One Jan 19 '22

What? No. The dog just stuffed its cheeks with eggs, as dogs are known to do.

17

u/Dr_Mantis_Teabaggin Jan 19 '22

Dogs understand that an egg can get them through these trying times.

We don’t deserve them.

79

u/InflammatoryMuskrat Jan 19 '22

Unless the dog is part hamster, yes.

31

u/Dodototo Jan 19 '22

There's always that chance.

4

u/Sir_Nelly Jan 19 '22

I have a golden, they hide stuff in their cheeks constantly. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve given my puppy a dental exam looking for a small stick or lego she’s gotten ahold of.

Those eggs were definitely put there though

205

u/Alphabadg3r Jan 19 '22

Absolutely did

24

u/i_dont_care_1943 Jan 19 '22

They might have been put there, but it's still funny as hell as they slowly fall out.

6

u/ma11en69er Jan 19 '22

Then it's on the wrong sub

3

u/i_dont_care_1943 Jan 19 '22

I wasn't saying that it's okay. I don't want staged shit on this sub either, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't get a laugh out of me.

3

u/Love_God551 Jan 19 '22

Even the dog was like ‘this looks so fake’

2

u/Earthenhare Jan 20 '22

Well probably not the current (re)poster, but some OP back in 2001, yeah.

-15

u/watersj4 Jan 19 '22

I cant tell if yall are joking but this is absolutely something a dog would do

13

u/bethaneanie Jan 19 '22

A dog wouldn't pick something up between the cheek skin and teeth

4

u/ma11en69er Jan 19 '22

In a cartoon maybe.

-8

u/watersj4 Jan 19 '22

No this is something golden retrievers are famous for doing...

9

u/ma11en69er Jan 19 '22

Show me video evidence of any dog managing to place 2 separate items in opposite cheeks with no human intervention.

I won't be holding my breath.

3

u/aaaa-im-a-human Jan 19 '22

You mean holding an egg in their mouth due to the trend to see if golden retrievers are actually gentle with eggs, right? Because it's still a human that gives the egg and puts it in their mouth. OP comment is talking about dogs just running around stealing eggs and cheeking it like hamsters.

0

u/watersj4 Jan 19 '22

Yes I was referring to that but I have a friend who used to have a golden retriever and he would regularly steal eggs from their chicken coop and carry them around in his mouth multiple at a time, idk if he kept it in his cheeks like this but it really doesn't seem as implausible as people are making out to be.

3

u/aaaa-im-a-human Jan 19 '22

I mean stealing eggs is plausible, my grandma's dog used to do that. It's the cheeking that seems a bit unbelievable, especially cheeking two eggs. Just seems unbelievable without any help from humans.

2

u/watersj4 Jan 19 '22

Eh maybe your right, I was sure I remembered seeing dogs cheeking tennis balls before but I cant find any videos and I cant actually think of any specific memories. I probably just misremembered something.

2

u/aaaa-im-a-human Jan 19 '22

Oh I know what you're talking about, dogs cheeking tennis balls. Thing is they still hold the balls in place with their teeth, it just protrudes into the cheek. This dog however is full-on cheeking two eggs, did the dog move it to the side with his tongue? Can dogs do that? That's the sketchy part.

276

u/DrLawyerPI Jan 19 '22

“Uhh…. Quack?”

78

u/Skrazor Jan 19 '22

Hey space duck, how are you?

18

u/yeet_machine69420 Jan 19 '22

Ah, a man of culture

8

u/ljcozad Jan 19 '22

Howard?

2

u/psikez Jan 19 '22

DBZA

3

u/ljcozad Jan 19 '22

I was referencing howard the duck from Marvel but, that works too.

1

u/psikez Jan 19 '22

I was looking at the other chain and replied to you absentmindedly! Sorry aboot dat.

2

u/ljcozad Jan 19 '22

I'm actually a bit embarrassed that I didn't pick up the reference.

128

u/dagenj Jan 19 '22

I thought eggs came from chickens, TIL

22

u/Michren1298 Jan 19 '22

We had a dog that used to hold eggs in her mouth. She wanted to eat them soooo bad. She wouldn’t do it because she would get in trouble because they were eggs for chicks.

92

u/HoboAssassins Jan 19 '22

man dogs are really upping their game to beat cat videos

19

u/watersj4 Jan 19 '22

Man dogs 😨

4

u/kuriboshoe Jan 19 '22

That’s a chicken

2

u/HoboAssassins Jan 20 '22

the future is here old man

379

u/brian_m1982 Jan 19 '22

That doesn't look staged or anything

136

u/TSCole153 Jan 19 '22

Ehhh my dog tried to hide a potato once so I wouldn't say this couldn't happen

31

u/Dodototo Jan 19 '22

I doubt it was in the cheeks though.

29

u/Luciolover345 Jan 19 '22

Well depends on what cheeks you are referring to. His? No. Your mothers? Yes

5

u/Financial-Neat7887 Jan 19 '22

I seen goldens get two balls at once and on their own so i don't think this is staged

4

u/ma11en69er Jan 19 '22

Inside the teeth - no doubt, in the cheeks - no way.

2

u/Oatmeal350 Jan 20 '22

I've seen my dog do shit just like this. wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it was real

202

u/VenetiaMacGyver Jan 19 '22 edited Jan 19 '22 Wholesome
  1. That dog is not feeling guilty. Look at the body language. Tail isn't wagging. Eyes are making solid contact. That dog is performing a trick on command.

  2. Dogs don't carry things in their cheeks unless by accident or they're a retriever following a command; this would be one hell of an accident, and if it was sneaking food, it would use its cavernous mouth, not its cheeks.

  3. I don't think the trick is hurting the dog (though it's probably uncomfortable; dog cheeks are on the small side [... lmao dog cheeks]), but don't train your dog to do this. They don't need to be accidentally swallowing an egg or eggshells or possible salmonella.

Shit like this bothers me. Teaches people the wrong things about learning animal behavior.

Edit RE: replies: I clearly said I don't think this is abuse. I'm telling people to learn animal behavior. Holy hell.

25

u/Breakfast_Lost Jan 19 '22

I have a dog that will go out of his way to get eggshells to crunch on. It's pretty ridiculous.

My garden is now far away from the dog spot so I can sprinkle eggshells in peace

40

u/lazysheepdog716 Jan 19 '22

PREACH!

"oh cute my dog is SMILING"

"I mean he's opening his mouth and panting, dogs smile with their ears, eyebrows and tails"

"You hate dogs!"

2

u/outerworldLV Jan 19 '22

I hate dogs apparently, because I don’t like aggressive dogs off leash near children...

9

u/PinkLaughs Jan 19 '22

That and they're fucking liars

People are so used to lies online with all the click bait and staged videos they don't care anymore

I do, fuck em

4

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '22

Goldens specifically have cheek pockets. It allows them to gently bring back the hunt without ruining/crushing it, even bringing it back alive sometimes.

6

u/VenetiaMacGyver Jan 19 '22

I'm aware, but ... I mean, you can just look at the video. The cheeks are super full. I doubt many other breeds would be able to hold them in there like that, but they're still obviously stretched too full, lol.

It's not like I'm saying it's abuse; it's not. But I don't train my dog to do tricks that may cause even minor discomfort, because it feels weird and wrong. It's not quite abuse ... But the owner is a dick IMO, if that makes sense.

5

u/AtomicDouche Jan 19 '22

How would it even get the second one in without dropping the first one?

-14

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '22

Just shut up

12

u/mind_overflow Jan 19 '22

no one fucking said anything about animal abuse lol, there are those kinds of people but honestly you pretending to be triggered in this case is just ridiculous. they literally said "i don't think it's hurting the dog". it has literally nothing to do with the dog's health. they even said that it bothers them because it teaches people wrong stuff about animal behavior. also it's definitely possible that the dog accidentally chokes on it, having no friction and being very round.

Pontius Pilate be like “She’s solid overall

-10

u/prginocx Jan 19 '22

Reddit moron. Yeah, dogs eating eggs and shells is SO DANGEROUS !!!!

-5

u/The_Grubby_One Jan 19 '22

The salmonella's the real danger. Neither eggs nor eggshells are especially dangerous.

Except maybe if a whole egg somehow went down his windpipe.

2

u/loppanisoppan Jan 19 '22

Tho if it is a healthy dog with no real problem with its body their body is fully capable of digesting the salmonella bacteria before it causes illness.

28

u/Necessary_Ad_5106 Jan 19 '22

Who says Dogs can't lay Eggs?

1

u/LoudMusic Jan 19 '22

I did some extensive research on the topic. Apparently the solution is to pretend that dogs do lay eggs.

17

u/bubbagump101 Jan 19 '22

Staged and for what reason I’m not sure

8

u/RevolutionaryStar824 Jan 19 '22

Reddit karma. It's pathetic how obsessed people are with fake internet points.

That look after the first egg drops .. 😂😂

6

u/lieucifer_ Jan 19 '22

that…was not supposed to hap-

-other egg drops-

fuck. I love you, remember?

3

u/Imbalanxs Jan 19 '22

The look at the start was great too; total deadeye, like the dog is thinking 'what? You ain't got nuthin on me'

2

u/Dodototo Jan 19 '22

Yea it probably thought they were gonna get in trouble for not holding the eggs. That's what that look was.

3

u/viv137 Jan 19 '22

It may be staged but I’ll be dammed if that isn’t the cutest thing I’ve ever seen

4

u/Blue_Rhapsody004 Jan 19 '22

"I can explain"

6

u/Ag_Smith_95 Jan 19 '22

7

u/wildfire98 Jan 19 '22

What's the dog version of oof? roof?

6

u/Thoughtofajoke Jan 19 '22

Owner put them there.

5

u/The_Lord_Humungus Jan 19 '22

My dog does this, but with deer turds. Little imp knows I won't let him eat them so when it's dark out and I can't see what he's doing, he hides them in his mouth for later consumption. It's absolutely vile and disgusting, but part of me respects the intelligence and dedication he puts into eating turds.

2

u/missionshitpost Jan 19 '22

I think he sucessfully looked innocent.

2

u/ih8javert Jan 19 '22

Staged or not, that was adorable

2

u/Zen0malice Jan 19 '22

Hahaha my Dalmatian used to do this. I thought she was the only one!

1

u/Flishicabr Jan 19 '22

As the first one slid out, I actually busted out laughing.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '22

Staged or not, it’s funny

1

u/Dec1m8u Jan 19 '22

I didn't do it... eggs fall from mouth

I swear it wasn't me.

1

u/FinsT00theleft Jan 19 '22

Our lab once at 2 dozen hard-boiled easter eggs - paint, glitter and all!

1

u/haja99876 Jan 19 '22

My boy can eat 50 eggs

1

u/Luciolover345 Jan 19 '22

Why is this my dog. Like first off it’s the same breed, but he also puts random shit on the street in his mouth and either just carries it and drops it or starts to eat it before I can get it off him (this is a lot harder than it sounds, a 18kg dog turns into a nightmare when there’s cardboard involved).

1

u/Rude_Journalist Jan 19 '22

We don't even have the eggs?

1

u/wereallmadhere9 Jan 19 '22

Retrievers are trained to hold eggs without breaking so they can bring back hunted birds without damaging them. It’s training for a “soft mouth.”

1

u/alcormsu Jan 19 '22

I FORGIV HIMB!!
