Their accents are really strong so I can't provide a full translation.
But the lady on the phone is calling the cops and saying that "someone is snatching my parking lot" and "she's crushing me with her car."

The driver was saying "there's so many spots why are you so fixated on this one"and the lady on the phone said it was at an Outlets, so the phone lady is just being an ass and she didn't own the spot.

That plays both ways, though. Even if someone is being stupid, backing into them deliberately is a "bad thing". I'd just go find another spot.

Seriously this whole thing could have been resolved easily. You can't reserve your own parking spot and you certainly cannot block people from parking. That should be considered a traffic violation like jaywalking. What action did they take? Blame everyone including the mall. People in power are so fucking stupid it hurts my brain.

This is why I don't work retail anymore and never will again. Dealing with the public you run into so many fucking morons. Too many people trying to bend the rules and push around the cashier or stock boy as if he or she personally tried to fuck them. They think we grow shit on the roof and assemble tvs in the back beacuse how could we be out of stock? And expired coupon? Fuck you. And if you don't they will certainly tell you they've done it before without fail.
I've had people try to return shit that is clearly not in the return time frame. Screaming at anyone who walked by with a store badge. The camera she wanted to return was definitely at least 3 years old and looked like it did a tour in Vietnam. It just needed new batteries and she quietly fucked off, but before was demanding a refund and blamed the store for selling shit quality stuff and not standing behind their product. When all we do is sell shit from other companies so call them.
The wild accusations you will get or lack of understanding is soul crushing. An employee in the photo area got accused of "photoshopping" a dog into her pictures. Lady we don't have the time or software for that shit. People not understanding the store policy on copyrighted photos cannot be duplicated.
And of course the people you work with are also the biggest idiots at times too. Dept. managers with big egos fuck off for hours throw all the work on you and blame you for when shit doesn't get done.
Retail sucks and it motivated me to get a degree to fuck out of there even faster.
14
u/improbablynotyou Jan 21 '22
I worked at a department store and once had an old man come in screaming about the baking sheet he bought. He went on and on about how he should be paid for us not doing quality control on the things we sold. His issue? The handles fell off the sheet, except what came off were the silicone grips that were designed to come off so you could clean the pan better. It worked exactly as designed but the old fucker refused to listen and called me every foul word he could think of. Of course he insisted on getting it replaced with a new sheet, the same fucking one he was returning. I even pointed out the label that said "with removable silicone grips" and he still told me I was wrong, a piece of shit, and an idiot. Working retail really made me hate humanity and want it all to burn. That wasnt even the worst thing I endured, far from it.
52
u/crumbummmmm Jan 20 '22
Yeah, the service industry is the worst. The customers i hate the most are the losers that make every exchange so confrontational, and try to blackmail you into doing things you would gladly do without the pressure. Some just come out of the gate and ask for a manager before they've even made a request.
I always wondered what was going on in their life that bossing around a stranger would make them feel better. What a pathetic lifestyle, and working in higher end shops is no better. I love Gen Z telling people to fuck off and mass quitting over things like this.

I park in the same spot at work every day, it's one of the only spots in the lot that only has a spot on one side of it and the other side is curbed grass. I take it cause so many moron customers smash their cars and carts around and it happens less to my car in that spot.
I also take my breaks in my car so people think I'm leaving. It makes me so happy seeing these people not give up after I tell them I'm not leaving and just sit there honking at me. Just because they don't want to take one of the plenty, slightly further spots
69
u/DuntadaMan Jan 20 '22
Once say a guy hold up traffic for one parking spot for 8 minutes, shouting and honking because someone left their lights on.
I told him immediately the car was empty, he just started cursing at me telling me to move a car that was not mine.
The parking lot wasn't even full, he was just fixated on getting that spot.
Felt good to sit and watch him after walking away a bit.

this one time i sat at a gas station in Hollywood for i kid you not...35+ min waiting in line to get to a pump. and right as i finally got my turn to go to the pump, some asshole tried driving right around me PLUS the 10 other cars in back of me!! i somehow managed to maneuver my car in a way to block him and take my rightfully deserved pump back from him.
this was maybe my biggest mistake and learning lesson. the guy calmly got out of his car, walked to his trunk and pulled out a golf club. he then calmly persisted up to my car and smashed my windshield in multiple times until there was literally barely any glass left hanging onto the window frame. i thought he was literally going to attack me and hit me with the club but he just calmly put his club back into his trunk, walked back into his car and drove away.
this was an extremely terrifying moment and big learning lesson to not even bother with assholes....and also that people will get away with anything. because the cops never found him or did anything regardless of the 10 different camera angles that probably caught the incident. and i had to pay out of pocket for my new windshield.

I looked it up. It's pretty vague in terms of where the parking spot is "public or private". You cannot obstruct a vehicle in a public parking space. It varies from state to state I think. However, by backing up into someone like this video, it is assualt, technically.
I do hate when people stand in a parking spot. I've heard arguments that it's the same as saving seats in a movie theater. If that's the comparison, then you should be using your own car to save the spot for someone else. Movie theater seats are for people, parking spots are for cars. People who do this are rude and the type to try to find loopholes even though they are screwing over others.
Edit: Just realized this video doesn't take place in the US. Watched it on mute since I'm working. My mistake. I have no clue how other countries' laws are for this type of practice. I'm curious if anyone has info.

Happened to me. I had been driving round and round for an hour trying to find a spot during a popular art gallery walk thing. Finally there is a spot and I start maneuvering to get into it when a lady stepped into the parking spot and started yelling.."My friend is handicapped and I'm saving this spot for them!" I stuck my head out the window and yelled "You can't do this, Move...or I'm going to run over you!" She didn't move and much to the horror of my passenger I drove up to her and tapped her leg with my car. Then she moved. The whole thing made me realize how I'm capable of road rage. Not proud of it, (but I still feel I was "in the right").

“Move, or the experience of being handicapped is something the both of you will share”
I’m going to hell for thinking of this immediately.

My first thought was "they can park in handicapped spot then" lol, right to hell with me as well

Lol sounds like one of those things you'd come up with later on while laying in bed and totally wish you thought of it in the moment.

Lol I remember listening to the radio of the DJs account of driving in our city during a major subway expansion construction (it took 45 mins to drive what took 5 mins normally), then trying to find parking at a major tourist trap (where there is barely any parking for the amount of people who go there) before the boat cruise they were scheduled to take left. He said if his wife wasn't in the car with him someone may have died.

Did they not realise within like 2 seconds that they were hopeless against a 5000 pound SUV?

Yeah, I'm going to side with the driver on this one.
I've had an experience where I was waiting for a guy to back out of his spot when a woman who was walking the parking lot claim the spot for her husband and tried to get her husband to cut in front of me to park there.
That sh!t ended real quick once I told her I was waiting for that spot and if she didn't move, I'm getting out of my car and I'll move her myself.

Why get out you paid for a 2.5 ton killing machine might as well use it

u/HostileBiscuits Jan 20 '22
Lesser charge

u/PoliteWolverine Jan 20 '22
Actually its a joke with lawyers. If you want to kill someone, do it in or with a car. Even if convicted in the worst case you'll probably do less time

If you run them over with your car your insurance will cover it. If you beat their ass, well that is out-of-pocket expense.

That's a fair point. I guess there's something more primal doing it yourself.

I had this exact scenario once. I just pulled in the spot as much as could without hitting her (about halfway), locked the doors, turned it off and put the keys on the dash, and started browsing on my phone like I had all the time in the world.

u/arkain504 Jan 20 '22
How long did you have to wait?
79
u/Roadhouse_Swayze Jan 20 '22
2-3 minutes tops.
She came and banged on my window initially and I shooed her away without looking up like she was irrelevant. Pretty much put the nail in the coffin right then.

That's why you get out and say I have 5 cameras in this car that run at all times. Don't touch my car again

The only things right here are that parking spaces are for cars, not people. And unless there's assigned parking, it's all first (vehicle) come, first parked. The people are all dumb here and the police agree. https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/comments/s8jwee/im_standing_on_this_public_parking_therefore_its/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

I had this happened to me in America. I took a parking space unknowably the car in front of me were trying to reverse in. (I was actually first here) he left his car and tried to fight me. I didn’t want my car to get key so I back up but block him from parking on purpose to let other car get this spot instead. He was so piss at the end lol

u/dickinahammock Jan 20 '22
That might be the best ending. Now he still don’t get a spot, and your car is safe.

My mom used to force me to stand in spots to save them. More often then not I’d let the first person to try and take it have it.

Dumb move to leave your car behind with people who are mad. I'd rather drive around. I'm not risking my car getting keyed.

The people blocking the space are jackasses, and that would tick me off, but I can't imagine backing into someone's body just to get a parking space. What if they slipped and got hurt?
Is winning the Battle of the Parking Garage really so important?

If I had a nickle for everytime a video of a family of Chinese people try to block a car for its parking space went viral, I'd have two nickles.
Which isn't a lot, but its weird that it happened twice.

I completely sympathize with the driver and understand the principle of the thing, and I’m glad that the Karens lost, but that’s a great way to get your car keyed (or worse).

Terrible park job. But I guess it’s hard to focus on the lines when there are two bitches in the way.

u/PossibleHypeMan Jan 20 '22
Aside from the obvious assault and battery, wouldn't you also be concerned of the 98% chance of your car getting keyed the minute you walk away?

Not worth it- I would just let them have it if they want the spot that bad. Who knows what they would be willing to pull after I get out of the car. Plus I am not about to injure someone if I can avoid it. Leg crushed and the investigation of the incident: “if you knew they were behind you why did you not stop” “because I saw the parking spot first!”

u/Firious2 Jan 21 '22
If that was me, i'd let them lean heavy, like **heavy** on the car, and then when they're used to it, shift into gear and drive forward, let them fall on their face, and go for another spot.

God I wish the SUV driver got out and was like "Shit, I'm not in the space." Pulls out and does it again.
